I know we have discussed tracking devices a lot on here with a lot of different products, but I came across the Chipolo Tracking Device from The Source. It is made to help locate hard to find items (keys, remotes, etc) but is also advertised for pets. It is not a GPS (which suits me just fine...the radiation action of the GPS makes me a bit nervous) but it can track location within a 200 ft range. It also tells you the temperature of the Chipolo, so if your cat is outside the temperature will reflect that.
It hangs as a tag on a collar, so it is not fool proof as the collar can come off, but it will show you the last location of the Chipolo when it goes out of range, and when you get back in range. It can be used by multiple people with the app, so if someone with the app picked it up, you would receive a notification of where they were picked up. It has a call button on it when you are within range, so you can hear where the tag is.
If you are in the 200 ft range, you can access a map and it shows your location on a map, and the Chipolo's location.
This is handy if your cat darts out the door and hides under something (assuming the collar is left on)
Here is Jimmy, sporting his new Chipolo. My grandma loves to leave the door wide open so he can leave, so this gives me a huge peace of mind.
This device cost $30 and has 2 batteries with it.
