Have you tried a horizontal scratch pad? That is the only thing that Rafiki will use. And, like Louie, she never scratches the furniture, she bites it. We go thru at least 1 double-wide scratchpad from Trader Joe every month. Rafiki bites off the sides of the box that holds it and spits out the pieces so she satisfies both her desire to sharpen her nails and her teeth. LOL We also have two of the "meow-o-loungers" by Pet Fusion. http://www.amazon.com/PetFusion-Scratcher-Lounge-Walnut-Brown/dp/B004X6UEH6 These have held up quite well for the year that we have had them. They operate as a scratch pad, recliner and place for Rafiki to hide her foam balls.
