Well, I'd disagree- you are walking a line on AR/AW when it comes to taking over decisions for owners- like declawing, crops, etc (AR is animal rights- AW is animal welfare- I know we are all AW's here, but just for the sake of the conversation). When you continuously remove owner's rights- you are pushing more into AR territory versus AW.

Do I think people should declaw? Once again, no, but I think that really- more vets need to talk owners out of it versus into it.

BUT- here- beat me with a big, big stick- I SO love a nice crop on a Dobie or Dane! LOOOVE IT.

Well, I've gotta very RESPECTFULLY disagree with you Trish I feel it's like apples and oranges when you compare cropping, to the partial amputation of the digits that a cat walks on and jumps on every day of their lives. And I don't see anyone here proposing to take away owner's rights. And I know that everyone is gonna wanna beat ME with a big stick when I say this but since this is a forum where we as cat and animal lovers can freely express their ideas and share them. So here goes! If I knew FOR SURE, and I mean FOR SURE that an animal was suffering EVERY DAY of their lives or WOULD suffer every day of their lives from one of these amputations then yes, it is better to put the animal down. But since we DON"T know for sure and there may be very, very rare instances where someone feels it may be necessary then it certainly should NOT be illegal. Heck, someone may have a pet Ocelot, Bobcat, or 45 lb Serval who may SERIOUSLY injure someone just by playing so who am I to say it should be illegal! Go ahead and hate on me if you want ( I hope you don't, LOL) cause I think you all are REALLY nice, but I feel that if we all had the same opinion and agreed on everything it would be a pretty messed up world. If kitties could talk and we really knew that most kitties did not suffer any pain, I would feel a whole lot less freaked out about it. ( I wish I knew) And I DO agree with Dantes that people who don't have the patience, or have REALLY fancy furniture, etc, etc. shouldn't adopt a kitty. I don't think that declawing and cropping should be illegal though...

Nah, no beating

See- I see cropping and declawing as both cosmetic surgeries. While the dogs might not be walking on their ears- it seems like it takes much longer for crops to heal and it is REALLY a purely cosmetic surgery while declawing serves a purpose- however misguided it might be.

That's the great thing about this world though- you are entitled to your opinion and I'm glad you have it You can educate people against declawing and as long as you match your passion with reason, it will serve a lot of good in the long run
