Diarrhea Problem

I don't trust most vets when it comes to nutrition. They sell Royal Canin and Science Diet, which are not good choices for feeding cats. We do homemade raw, and my vet is OK with that. But they probably wouldn't steer anyone in that direction.
Both of the vets that Rafiki is seeing have flat out told me that they only took 1 class in nutrition. They have recommended speaking to a nutritionist instead of relying on them.

I just ordered Fortiflor Probitic. Hopefully that'll help. I'll cook him the chicken and rice this week. Does is matter white or brown rice?
Most cats really like the taste of the fortiflora. I have used it as a flavor as well as for the probiotics.

I am not sure about the white or brown rice....Rafiki leaves the rice behind anyway.

If your kitten snubs it, you can mix in a little bit of Gerber baby food (2nd foods that contains only chicken, water and cornstarch) as a gravy. Beechnut baby food does not contain the cornstarch so it is less creamy and more like finely minced in texture.

Fortiflora is actually a better flavor enhancer than it is probiotic. It doesn't contain as many live cultures as many others, and can actually increase diarrhea in certain instances. One of my breeders recommended Mercola brand and we give it to all of our cats now.

I fed him boiled chicken legs mixed with boiled chicken eggs and pumpkin. Past two days. He ate it up pretty good. I'm going to cook some plain white rice this week to add to it also.
Is there anything wrong with this? Stools have been good so far.
I have the fortiflora coming in a couple of days.

I'm not sure I'd give him pumpkin at this point. It might make his stools softer. I'd stick to the boiled chicken (no bones) and I guess ifthe eggs aren't bothering him then you can continue those. But those can give some cats diarrhea, especially if they aren't used to them.

So just the chicken and rice? And the fortiflora when I get it? I did have a soft stool this morning.

Yes, pumpkin is for softening stools. And you can try Fortiflora, but if diarrhea gets worse then stop giving it. You don't really know exactly what you're dealing with if you haven't had a PCR done. If there is something like clostridium and a couple others going on, it can make the diarrhea worse because of the E. Faucum in it.

Polymerase Chain Reaction is a much more complete fecal test that has to be sent out to a lab. It can detect things that you used to have to wait for a stool culture to find. And I think it is actually way more sensitive than even that would be. I would contact your vet and ask if this specific test has been done. Some vets don't even know what it is.
