Apparently, bismuth subsalicylate has been added only in the last few years, so vets might not know that.

I did not see any discernible side effects with Imodium...it is not recommended for long-term use.

Thanks for all the advice/input. I am going to try the pumpkin when needed and/or try out a product like the one on the link. Thank you! :)

Chances are, once he is on raw meat, it will clear up completely. You can also tried simple boiled chicken (boneless) and rice.
The only thing with boiled chicken and rice is...the taurine and other supplements are going to be very important . Just getting the cat on a food that they like(grain and gluten free) and not keep changing the diet week after week is going to make a big difference.

This is a recipe for Slippery Elm Bark which is a diarrhea remedy highly recommended on the holisticat forum I belong to. It is also used for diarrhea in human babies.
SEB Gruel Recipe:
1/2 tsp (2.5 g) SEB powder from capsules
OR
1/4 tsp (1.2 g) SEB bulk powder (this is from bulk foods section of health food stores & is denser than powder from caps)

2 Tbsp (28 ml) boiled water

Pour SEB powder into a clean glass jar, then pour in the boiling water. Stir to mix until thickened or allow to stand for 30 minutes, then shake covered jar. Cover & refrigerate after each use. Discard after 3-5 days.

Dosage:
Give kitty 3-5 cc's via syringe or dropper 2-3 times/day. Ideally, allow 30 minutes between feeding/meds.

Common uses - constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and stomach acidity.
