Dooley still challenged

Glad to hear he's doing so well... hard to think about rocking the boat when everything is going so smoothly, but I know he must miss his brother and the rest of his family...

We wouldn't bring him home if we thought for a second there was anything that would compromise his health. Allergy tests negative, home tested with air samples for mold or other toxins proved to be negative as well. At a loss as to what else We're supposed to do when the issues appear to lie elsewhere.

Dooley had a seizure last night around 11:30pm at my sisters house. By the time we had him to the emergency room he was stable and somewhat back to normal, just tired. After speaking with the emergency vet who is very much aware of Dooley's case she said it wasn't surprising he had an episode and his medication is likely only going to reduce frequency and severity of the seizures.

Today he seems a bit wobbly and we are going to take him back in.

So whatever hopes there were of treating this medically seem to be pretty much washed up. Hopefully someone from IM will be on call today and if not I'm sure the primary vet will call when she receives the update.

I also want to update something I said previously about the prognosis of surgery. Successful surgeries are very high while in about 50% of the cases a second surgery is required. That makes me feel a lot better about things than my previous misunderstanding.

Damn John. I am so down about this thing with Dooley. I pray to God that the surgery will be the cure. With you all the way buddy. Wish I could do more.

So sorry about the seizure, they are so hard to deal with since there is nothing you can do except wait for them to end. I hope the vet can offer some help in controlling them in the future. Do they feel the surgery will help with the seizures?

He's certainly not making any of this easy as he will eat and chew on anything. He had eaten a hole in a blanket as well as ate a portion of a rope toy. Not sure if that was a contributing factor but he vomited it up and also passed through some in his stool.

As often has been the case, after feeling bad and not eating much, he eats with voracity which further complicates things. I need to do a better job of spreading out his meals so he doesn't just go Sumo on me for one meal of the day. I'm guessing he's eating about a pound a day, but today he had 12ozs before noon.

Thanks for keeping Dooley in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh no :(. So sorry to hear about another seizure. Sending love and prayers as well. I hope they/you can figure out a treatment plan that can give you all relief and comfort. Adjusting his diet (which is what you need to do apparently) has maybe gotten him all confused about edible/ non edible eating? Both mine routinely eat non food items but so far not a huge problem. If surgery is what is decided upon- I pray it's the answer and pray for Dooley to do well.
