Dooley still challenged

Have you tried running UV?
I have reactive airway syndrome, which I understand is like ashma. Since we added UV sterilizers 2 years ago, my attacks, when I have them, are less severe. Between the UV and the HEPA filters, I have not had a serious attack in several years.
We also moved out of rentals and into a new house with hardwood floors in 2011, which was the first step towards normal again for me, and it might be the same for Dooley.

John,

I also went the whole house filter route. I thought it would help with the cat hair, and it did but it really help with the pollen that we have where I live. When I changed the filter, it was black, not with hair but particulates.

Hope you find whats triggering Dooley,

Dooley is at the emergency vet again this morning. Trish gave him a steroid injection last night and he hadn't improved much this morning. He is currently on oxygen at the vet and I'll call the other vets to figure out the appropriate path. An allergy panel seems to be the right course, getting desperate to find help for my boy and it totally sucks being away from home.

Geez! I'm sorry John are any windows open? I am suffering right now, so just assuming allergies are the culprit for Dooley!

No, Trish said all the windows are closed.
Feeling pretty helpless right now and way too far from home.

Thanks much! I understand that he was pretty obstinate at the vet, so I'm hopeful he will be better after time getting some oxygen.
