Door Darting

Aww John, what a dilemma. If it were me, I'd (despite any misgivings about negative reinforcement) make the door darting as unpleasant for him as possible. Use air horns, the hair dryer, spray bottle with water infused with citrus or citrus itself assuming he doesn't like those fruits. I'd stand by the door as though leaving, wait for him to approach and then shove the fruit under his nose or squirt him on the side or blast him with air. Anything to scare him spitless. Far far better than combing the neighborhood and putting up posters. If he isn't microchipped, I'd definitely get that done asap.

Casey is chipped from the breeder and Metro can read it ,he is a big bold almost 10 month old kitten and spray water will not work , we where lucky and must be more careful, having a Savannah cat is not like a job, it's a adventure . as you all know.

Our front door has a glass window and about 2' of space on the opening side. We often have stuff in that space--boots, recycling, etc., and the cats hide in it and dart from there.

One assist we've put in place is a thin piece of plywood (1/8" baltic birch--too thin for them to stand on) perpendicular to the door right next to the opening side. This means the cats must mount a frontal attack, no sneaky side attacks. Adjust size to your cat's athletic ability...
