Finally got a few pics off my camera for a few examples of the build.
Materials:
24in base round table board
18in top round table board
3 '4ft x 2in' round post/poles
6 '4in' wood screws
Wood glue
150ft of sisal rope
20in round cat bed for the top
1. The post is three 4ft x 2in post. I took a couple old belts and bound them together and lined each seam with good wood glue and let dry for a day.
2. In image 1 and 2 I centered the now glued post and lined them out on the top and bottom round boards.
3. I then drilled the smaller holes and marked the center on each post with a nail so I'd know where to drill the guild hold in the post.
4. Took a larger bore bit and made a counter sink hole. The screws I found were not flat topped.
5. I attached the bottom round base first. Some wood glue in each guide hole to keep them tight and screwed the base on.
6. Same procedure for the top plate. Then let that dry for a day.
7. This one took 150ft of about 1/2in sisal rope, wanted something nice and round he wouldn't eventually cut through. I could only find 50ft lengths so the 'bulges' are where I attached the next spool.
8. I tacked the rope at the base then warped around the nail spot. Same with each attachment of the next spool.
9. I found a 20 inch round cat bed that I was able to fold over the 18in top then used a staple gun to attach to the underside of the top board.
Yesterday Leto finally started using it, a full length stretch and scratch! Then climbing it to pull his feather toy off the top! (pic from this mornings climb) LOL Hardly wobbles a bit when he's on it. I did put some padding on the bottom to avoid scratching the floor. On a carpet floor it may not be as stable, but the rubber pads I put on stick to the floor a little, not intended but hey I'll take it!
Hey.. I like to tinker in the garage when I can!
