Feliway Diffusers

But you continue to use them after how long. I read that you can do them for 60-120 days then stop. Is this true. I have no idea. TY

They run out in 30 days. You can tell, all of the liquid wicks up from the canister into the air, and you need to replace the canister.
Sometimes I'll get 5 weeks out of them, but not much more than that to be honest. I've been using them for about 3 years.

Re: stopping, some people are able to use them just for a few months.
We are not. Jarvis is naturally a nervous kitty, and he gets too jumpy if I stop using them. For me helping him feel safer is worth the few extra $ per month.

So its depends on your cats. Ive read so many different things. Do you use the comfort zone sprays also or just the diffusers? So you see a noticeable difference if you stop using them or if they get low and havent gotten to change them?

Everything depends on the cat. They're individuals just as humans are -- no two alike. Whether the feliway affects a cat and for how long depends on the cause of the behavior. I believe that for learned behaviors -- environmental factors causing the behavior -- and for some slight hormonal/chemical imbalances, feliway can alleviate the behavior. For behaviors that are triggered by very traumatic situations, for inherited issues, it would likely be a long term or permanent option.

Im just trying to understand how it works. Could be temporary for settling a new kitten or maybe permanent for a cat that has underlying issues. Never heard of this stuff till a short time ago!

It's a great concept. Make a synthetic copy of cats' facial pheromone used to mark their territory as safe and secure and it should work the same way.

Reviews are all over the place, some good, some bad, some say they used it a month, some say a long time. How can I be this old and have never heard of it lol

Ok lol. So there are a few different sprays that apparently help, feliway, comfort zone, natures best. Whats the best one or if I didnt list it, are there more that are good.

My boys Mickey and Diablo would not be bothered in the slightest if we stopped using them tomorrow. Jarvis. . . I can tell when 1 diffuser is out. The change in behavior is apparent in a very short time.

I've used the comfort zone spray. It doesn't work for my guys, but every cat is different as Deb said. I've used the feliway spray as well, to try and stop my Jarvis from scratching furniture. That hasn't worked so well for me, but that is because Jarvis scratches when he is nervous or frustrated. It is just who he is. it works with the other two.

If your kitty arrives, and is adapting well, then I would say after 60 days you can allow one or more to run out, and replace or not replace, depending on behavior.

I believe there are plenty of people on here who don't use any diffusers or sprays, and it is just those of us with a more high strung kitty that use them, but you could take a poll and find out.

I had been contemplating on buying one for my kitties who hate each other but when I find out that for just my first floor open floor plan area I would need about 3 I have decided that this is just too costly. Will talk to my vet and see if she can prescribe something for them instead. I have already spent too much with Jackson Galaxy remedies and the Rescue Remedy and the other Bach flower essences that I just can't justify spending more on something that may or may not work as is so costly to maintain each month.
