Rafiki finished her 6 week series of B-12 injections last week so yesterday we went back to the internal medicine vet for a follow-up. He did the blood work for this as well as the liver values so that I would not have to go back to my regular vet this week. We will get those results back next week.
The last time that we did a liver work up was a month ago. She is basically holding her own with most liver values moderately elevated. No major improvement but values are at least stable. Her RBC remains low (5.4 versus a normal of 6.5 - 12.2). Her BUN is at 15 (last time it was 16 and the range is 16-36). Her ATL remains elevated (341 now down from 393 last month against a normal range of 12-130). Her bilirubin rose from 1.2 to 1.9 (range is 0-.9). GGT remained the same (29 against a range of 0-4).
We will be keeping her on the Atopica (Cyclosporine) but this time we are trying a liquid as the pill is freaking huge and requires 3 attempts on average to get it down her throat. Last night was the first attempt and it went OK. We shall see about how it goes tonight. We are adding 2.5 mg of prednisone in hopes of dropping the liver values back into the normal range. She will also continue to have the Denamarin in the morning as well.
The one bit of good news was that her weight was up to 13.49. Last week it was only 12.94 and I was concerned because she had been losing 2-3 oz a week. I credit primarily freeze dried duck hearts and nutri-cal for the weight gain was she is being extremely fussy as of late. On the other hand, she is extremely playful. This morning she was an absolute pest!
Access Emergency hospital has declared her their favorite savannah! Both the vet and his technician were gushing over how sweet she is.
