fibrosis of the liver

The spleen biopsy came back negative for cancer. It is not conclusive as they were unable to get to the lymph node but the oncologist seems to think that it is either benign or low grade lymphoma at the worst. Unfortunately, this means that we do not know what caused this latest attack. The vet feels that if it were an adverse reaction to the cyclosporine, she would have recovered by now. This morning she had full use of her back legs but was favoring the left front. She is definitely not feeling well and spent most of the day under the bed. Other possibilities include liver failure and strokes as the cause.

So what to do for the next step? Sedating her and performing a true biopsy would be more definative but I dont know that she is strong enough for sedation. The vet wants to perform a bile acid tolerance test which would tell us if she is in liver failure. Unfortunately, he works Wed-Sat. I am not really comfortable doing this test without him present. Another possible test would be her heart - to see if the symptoms are caused by a clot.

So right now, I think that I need to avoid stressing her out as much as possible. When I got off the phone with the vet, she had gone down 2 flights of stairs to the litter box so she is ambulatory. When I tried to approach her, she bolted. She is petrified that we will bring her back to the vet so she is hiding under the bed again. I asked the vet for more pain meds (the kitty-morphine that is liquid and tasteless). Getting it in her means getting her out from under the bed. I have been feeding her small meals every few hours and she is eating with some enthusiasm.

Linda, what a roller coaster and so much stress on you and Rafiki. I'm sending virtual hugs to you. I wish there was more that I could do. It's so difficult to see a ill sweet furbaby. We are all cheering Rafiki on and hope she beats this latest challenge.

Right now, I am absolutely terrified. She is such a sweetheart and the thought of losing her is more than I can deal with.
