FIP

No.

FIP is a horrible disease affecting all kittens and young cats (and elderly cats)... but unfortunately we can't determine which kitten is going to develop it. The so-called "FIP test" is only a coronavirus titer test which tells you a cat has been exposed to the virus in its benign form. And they estimate ~80% of cats are positive to exposure, so the test will not tell you if a kitten is "safe" or not.

So is it more common in kittens?
The immune system is very involved in development of the disease (either an under or over reaction depending on whether wet or dry FIP).... so young cats and kittens are susceptible because their immune systems are still developing, and then when elderly cats' immune systems break down a bit and they become more susceptible too...

So yes, more common in kittens but not only kittens as Paige says.

There has been ongoing research of FIP for years and unfortunately we still don't know exactly why certain kittens/cats convert to FIP and others don't, nor have we developed a test that can pinpoint these susceptible felines (although there have been some attempts in the past, all have had diappointing results).

You can test for the corona virus but chances are your kitten wll be positive, so it's really not a valuable test and IMHO a waste of money as a screening tool...
