Flea control chat, opinions on diatomaceous earth please

As an update, we are headed to the vet tomorrow and I will see what he thinks I should use. She has also had a goopy eye I want to have looked at and she isn't eating well. Hoping the vet can get her sorted out and feeling better.

I really hope she is ok - she is adorable! The problem with sending kittens home that early, is that their immune systems are not fully developed...so you add stress on top of that and get sick kittens...just so you know - you can ask a breeder to hold the kitten longer...hope the vet can get all sorted out.

Also..there are breeders who add diatomaceous earth to the food of their cats...

She is a real cutie! I'm glad to hear that she has adjusted so easily.

I'm sorry to hear about the goopy eye - has she received any vaccinations yet? The conundrum here, as Paige has pointed out, is that in a kitten this young their immune systems are not well developed and if they have only had one (or no) vaccine and you take them to the vet that is rife with sick animals she is at even greater risk of 'catching' something. When you take her, please keep her confined to her carrier until they are ready to examine her, then make them wipe down the exam table thoroughly before putting her on it, and don't let her get down on the floor if at all possible.

I usually bring my own towel or blankie and put it down on the table, after I make sure they have wiped it down

Thank you for the words of wisdom, I will bring an extra blanket besides the one in her carrier to put on the table. I really didn't want to be taking her this soon after her coming home, but I worry she could get sicker. I will be very careful at the vet's office today.

I am hoping that the goopy eye is just the result of a bit of feather fluff from a toy getting in her eye.

So the vet visit went well yay! He gave me Revolution for her fleas, some eye drops for her eye and we talked about her weight problem. She hasn't been eating well since she came home and is very skinny (was sorta scrawny to begin with), he wants me to give her a little nutri-cal for a few weeks as he thinks it will help her gain some weight and stimulate her appetite. He thinks otherwise she is in good health and happy, she was very sweet and purring for the vet and the nurse. He was a very nice vet, I liked him a lot. After we got home she actually ate some and I witnessed her drinking water for the first time (she probably has before, I just hadn't seen it). She is in good spirits and seems to be feeling better. The vet was shocked at her size, he said she is very tiny for an 8 week old kitten.
