Frank question about breeders

All my friends accuse me of talking too much about my kittens. It would be great to have a potential new owner to rattle on with. Maybe that puts them off....I just don't know. But, I love to teach and learn.

You might want to privately ask one of the members here if they would recommend or buy a savannah from a particular breeder. That way they do not have to say anything negative and perhaps you can read between the lines. I bought Tink 23 months ago from what I thought was a reputable breeder that was listed with TICA and savannah cat.com. The breeder is no longer listed with savannah cat.com, the web site no longer exists, the breeder has moved, changed phone numbers , refuses to return emails. I still do not have the TICA registration papers. All of my attempts to get the blue slip, to get help from the breed club, to get help from 2 SE regional directors have failed. I last spoke with a regional director in March. Phone calls and emails ( 1 in April, May, June and July) have gotten no response. You can hope and pray that the breeder is reputable but there is no way to know for sure. I do feel that if I purchased a kitten from someone that posts here, that they probably are reputable. That is the feeling that I have about everyone here. I know that my situation is very unusual and not the norm. I love Tink. I just wish that I had her papers and could breed or show her. Sue

That really is a shame, Sue :-(

I agree, breeders on this forum are likely safer bets in terms of reputability. Patrick does turf breeders off savannahcat.com if he is given good reason to... but there is so much he can do to determine upfront if a breeder is ok. He requires that a listed breeder recommend a new addition.

Best to ask members if there are ones they recommend as Sue says... generally speaking we do not like to diss other breeders, nor share malicious gossip but we can try to steer you right by telling you if we like and respect a certain breeder. Read between the lines... if you can't find another breeder to endorse the breeder you are interested in, then be careful!

I practically accused the breeder I got my first Savannah from as a scammer. I Googled her house, and was a nervous wreck until I had my kitty. She was on TICA, so, I finally relaxed with my Djembe.

That is rather funny as I was once asked, how do I know you are not a scammer? Good question! I had to pause and think about that one for a while. They are on the rise certainly!
