Like many people I don’t really understand the inner guts of how the internet works, but I intially hesitated about donating because the URL I see for this website has a little i at the beginning and when I click on it a pop up window says the website is not secure and people should avoid entering any sensitive information like a credit card. That may not be a real concern in this case, but it maybe enough to make quite a few people unwilling to take a chance...?

The website is secure and donating goes through PayPal, so nothing to do with the site.

Personally, I trust you Paige, but according to my Google Chrome browser there is a message saying the website isn't secure. Maybe I am unusually cautious, but normally I never would purchase or donate through a website where I saw that. And I do not see this warning for most websites I visit. Not meaning to suggest you are at fault. For some reason I see the same warning on the CBC news website. Like most people I have no idea why. But I would never enter any sensitive financial info on the CBC site because I see the same warning.

Just sayin...

With PayPal it's perfectly safe, your not actually entering any personal info on savannahcatchats's website. It's all handled on the PayPal website and server. That's why when you click donate it redirects you off this site then back to after you confirm. So if u ever pay with PayPal and it doesn't redirect you to a PayPal server then be very cautious.

It has to do with non secure and secure content...I am switching the forum over to https and that is what the issue is. David explained it much better as far as PayPal. That being said, I understand what you are saying, but I don't get that message on Google chrome. If you don't feel safe in donating, its fine.

It sounds like the new system will fix whatever the glitch is. I privately mentioned this as a concern months ago, before I first donated, at that time I trusted the reassurance I received and have donated since then with no problem. I just can see where for some people seeing that warning might make them hesitate...

I think a yearly fee is reasonable, however I also think that if we had yearly, or even monthly reminders of the need for donations we might be able to meet our needs that way - then those who do just join for a one time need can still receive assistance and advice without having to pay for a full year's access.
I think that I have my membership renew automatically so I don't ever think about it. Having a reminder about the need for funds periodically would be nice for me.

Wish I could afford to donate more then the yearly one I do now but it looks like I will probably be on disability retirement from my wife and I's Harley accident. You do a great job and will be missed if you shut down.

Don't worry about it... You're fine! I hope you are both ok...
