Give stubborn kitty his paste meds

I've been paying close attention to his water intake. He's been drinking water fairly steadily every 15-30 mins or so for the last half of the day.

I have a vet appointment tomorrow afternoon so he can get tested.

I did get a second vet opinion today and she said they use L-Lysine if the vet suspects a virus or bug that a kitten could fight on their own.

Sounds like the next think will be a stool check and possibly X-ray to see if there's any blockage.

On the plus side of all this, he's finally not fighting me when I hold him tight and put the meds in his mouth, so it's a good learning experience for both of us. And he hasn't thrown up or diahreeaed today, first day in a week and two days so maybe things are looking up!

Do you know how to check a kitten for dehydration?

If you take a pinch of skin over the cat's shoulders and pull up gently, the skin should snap back into place when released. As the cat gets more dehydrated, the skin goes back in place more and more slowly. If the pinch of skin stays up (the "tent"), it is a sign of severe dehydration.

You have 2 kittens so you can easily compare the skin reaction time. If he is dehydrated and lethargic, I would get him to an emergency vet.

So as everything looked better that night was the worse. Threw up 3 times. I took him to my small pet vet guy, he did surgery on my rat 3 times so I trust him. He did a full feline blood test, 3 X-rays, did a urine analysis, and gave me a thing to bring a stool sample. He also gave her some an injection for the vomiting, and some water under the skin. He sent me home with two things for her, a clay like med that absorbs toxins and helps vomiting and a a anti Biotic. I get the results Saturday which is good because I leave for Hawaii Sunday but I have a very capable friend looking after them and I've authorized her to my vet for my cc

Hoping the results on Saturday are conclusive, the stool test takes 7 days so I will just be getting back when those come in.

It's definitely hard not to cancel my trip. But I trust her, and she's been good with them mostly. I've been training her to clean stuff up right away haha.

The two of them, she's helping him through this tuff time.

They haven't called me yet with the results. They are open until 6 so I will call if they don't soon. The antibiotics seem to have stopped the vomiting. If he would stop spitting out the Pro Guard i'm sure it would help with the diarrhea. At least the vomiting is gone which is a major relief.

SDMA is 20, range is supposed to be 0-14, could mean kidney issues in early stage, we have to do a urine sample next which should show if there are enough signs to do a ultrasound. The other 2 tests for kidney came back normal, but he said the test that came back 20 can detect things in a very early stage.

But that is separate from the issue of the vomiting and diarrhea

All the other tests came back normal. The stool test will take another week or so.

I've booked him in next week to get a urine test and then maybe a ultrasound depending what they find.

Tested negative for major viral infections like FIV (thank god)
