Human remedies don't always work on cats. Lysine doesn't boost the immune system, it decreases arginine production. Some recent studies have shown that not only is it ineffective on cats, but can actually be harmful.

Best immune booster you can use for a cat is a GOOD probiotic since most of their immunity originates in the bowels.

I know some people swear by Lysine for their cats. However I choose to not use it on my cats. And Lysine really only would in theory help with Herpes, not immunity in general. So no need to use it unless you are in fact dealing with herpes.

Always nice to talk to my mother (aka the woman of 40 cats)
here is her response to that article, I am not tell anyone how to raise their child, but this is how I was raised
"The study that is mentioning is a recent study done by (grad students probably) someone who only reviewed OLD studies and came to the conclusion that there was not enough positive evidence to recommend L-Lysine supplements for viruses in cats. There were no new studies done, nor were any of the original studies done with residential or shelter "real life" subjects. All were lab specimens in small numbers. We have used lysine specifically for the feline herpes virus and although it does not cure the cat of reoccurring symptoms, it keeps the symptoms at bay until something else like cancer or a benign tumor compromises a kitty's health and allows the virus a chance to shed again. Those "well informed" folk need to actually read the studies and not get their news from Facebook announcements! It is sad bc millions of cats are no longer treated with lysine bc of this irresponsible Asshat that got this lazy study published. I still order and use L-Lysine with our cats."

My mother has 40 cats ... they reside in a plush cat condo with outdoor access, cat love and optimal diet choices. She runs a non kill shelter for mostly strays and unwanted cats due to health and age.
