He Wants All My Food

My F5 male wants everything I eat. As soon as I start preparing meals he comes running. Purring like an engine. He'll jump in the fridge. He'll sit in the island and watch me prepare the food (I am okay with him on the counters so that isn't a problem). When I start to eat he's right there. Trying to paw and put his face in the food and yowling when I won't give him any. My DSH might smell my dinner but has no interest in eating it. Reever on the other hand wants it all, it seems there is nothing he won't eat.

I have tried to distract him by feeding him his wet food when I am ready to eat. It works for a short time but as soon as he's done his dinner he's back to wanting mine.

Does anyone else experience this? If so, what do you do? I've attached a pic of how he sits when watching me prepare food. Was taken 3 weeks ago.

Awww...my baby Tempest, future queen, does the exact same thing...so I put her in another room, until she learns..that is my advice

Also, what and how much are you feeding him? He might actually be hungry. Savannah kittens, especially the boys it seems, sometimes eat so much it defies logic.

My F3 couldn't care less about people food. My F2 is very persistent about it and having a toddler that loves to feed him doesn't help. He usually has to spend mealtimes in another room...

I am feeding him Whole Life dry cat food (grain free, made in Canada) and Weruva Truluxe wet food (grain free). The kibble is available all day and he gets the wet for breakfast and dinner.

Putting him in another room or in a carrier during meals is the easiest way to deal with the behavior. If he is young he may eventually grow out of his persistence in trying to get you to share your meals.

We have an open floor plan, I'd hate to shut him in the bathroom or bedrooms but I may have to resort to isolating him.

We started our lives with Savannahs with a beagle as well. And the one thing we learned with the beagle is to never ever feed him our food...so we applied that to the Savannahs. When they have no expectation of getting anything you are cooking or eating, then they don't try as hard to get to your plate. As with the beagle, give an inch they take a mile so you need to be firm and consistent with the rules to get anywhere...

Our F1 Nina was raised being fed from the human's plate and we noticed when she arrived that she was way more interested...and being F1 quite persistent. Nowadays it takes something special for her to even try... although the counters when we've gone to the table are "fair game" to her!
