Brigette, nice information!
You have raised my curiosity. Ball park opinion.
Do you think there is a significant prevalence of HCM in the Savannah breed?

The reason your cat's pedigree is difficult to interpret mainly is because he comes from a controversial "high percentage" program.... So the heritage of many of the cats involved, Sir Spotlahad of Camelottaspots for example, is only disclosed as "unknown". So the Servals are not appearing in the pedigree like most Savannahs for you to be able to determine generation so easily.

And some cats are listed in pedigrees as "experimental shorthair" either because the heritage is unknown (mixed breed domestic shorthair) or because they don't wish the breed to be listed (this happened in a lot of Savannah pedigrees when breeders wished to hide the amount of Bengal they were using).

You might find this link useful, http://www.kirembosavannahs.com/ourcatfamily/katieexplanationpopup.html
This is something I wrote years ago to explain the theory behind my Katie, who is Camelottaspots Lady Merryn's full younger sister. This is the theory, many will simply tell you that Spoterlin is a Serval and Katie is just a straight F1 with Bengal mama.
Wow
I am learning too much And too late for Romeo !
There may be a lot HCM in SV then we realize ...?!?
So my baby was supposed to be 32% serval equivalent to F2 + but he is more F4 with lol of Bengal
Is the Bengal or F generation make him not able to compete in TICA ?

Personally, NO I don't think there is.

HCM happens even in feral cat populations. It is more common in some breeds, including the Bengal, which has been heavily used (and not always disclosed) in some Savannah programs... hence some of the cases I have seen over the years came from those lines.

Grain of salt... one of the things that spurs people to join groups and share information is when they have a problem. Many don't bestir themselves to participate when things are normal and going well. But when excited over a new kitten, lots of posts...that as the kitten grows up those posts peter out. And their kitten has a litterbox issue, they seek help online in groups.... so one might also be lead to believe that Savannahs have litterbox issues except that all feline related groups have those kind of posts.

We have a few posts regarding HCM, but to bring into perspective over 1,300 Savannahs were registered with TICA in the last show year period. This is a rapidly growing breed and TICA's Fourth most popular breed... so a lot of Savannahs out there.

I think forums like this one and yahoogroups and Facebook are invaluable though, as they do alert us to health issues and give us a good chance of catching if a certain health issue is increasing in incidence.

And if breeders do not take heed when they produce a kitten with HCM, and test the parents and consider not mating those two together (or even altering and petting out those parents)... well then the story may change. I would hope most breeders take it very seriously when they have a kitten develop HCM...and I wish all breeders scanned their breeders for this disease at least once.

$10,000 seems high for an F2...but then I am not at all up on pricing. I would have thought that was more F1 pricing...

@kabuki - I don't know of any breeder producing F2's for $10,000 - many F1's are sold for that price...most F2's are about $5500 and up, depending on whether the kitten is a pet or breeder...

Well I guess A1 charges that maybe? I thought f1 are like 15 to 20,000. I would pay 10,000 for a f2 if sv to sv but if 5500 that would be great. Are there any breeders in California ?

I have an sbt male , would like a female f2 ? No hurry but really don't want to buy from breeder far away again....

Halestone Savannahs produce F2s down LA way and I can happily recommend them :)

I think you can see some inflated prices on some flashy websites...and I think they rely on people assuming their cats must be better because they are more expensive. Why else would people pay twice as much for the equivalent thing?

You should expect most Savannahs, even F2s to be SV to SV...I don't think there are many producing outcrossed F2s anymore...

I would not pay $10,000 for an F2 period...as for A1 Savannahs, I do not think they will be producing F2's or any other kittens in the near future...as Brigitte has stated, most F2's are Sv to SV breeding and that is what I would expect...I can see where it would be confusing though to many people as far as the hefty pricing and where to draw the line...that is what we are here for...to help you all decipher through it...
