Yes Thank you. Merlin was the last cat that my late wife had talked me into. So, with his passing I lost a little more of her. I had him for 14 years. He had a good life.
But my SVs are making me laugh..BIGTIME!!!

Cary, Azidi's world has been turned upside down. All that she knew and was comfortable with has changed. As others have advised, it is important that she be given as much time as she needs to get used to her new home, you, and the presence of Kilifi. Bonding with you will happen if you continue what you're doing -- staying in her room reading out loud, computer work, whatever. Welcome, Cary and kitties

As others have said...give Azidi lots of time, no matter how long it takes. I have no doubt she will come around with time, love and patience

I was just in with Azidi. She was sitting in the window until I came in ...then, of course it was directly under the bed. No panic but not too slowly either. She will come around. I am just like a little kid wanting to love her. LOL

Welcome Cary, glad to see you here!

Just for everyone else's benefit let me explain that Azidi was one of the 16 Monument Wildfire refuge cats and kittens I took in a couple of years ago. They were all very sick and required months of medication. Azidi was only a couple of months old, and particularly unhappy about being medicated. This 'trained' her to run and hide from me whenever she saw me come with the medicine. For the past three years she has literally been in hiding, not just from me but from other cats who all seemed to like to intimidate her... until the past month or so she started actually coming to me and allowing me to pet her and interact with her - truly a miracle in my mind. Unfortunately, even though she was warming up to me she was still running and hiding from the other cats.

When Cary contacted me and let me know that he had lost Merlin and was looking for a new companion for Kilifi (who is a very laid-back, non-intimidating cat) we talked about several options, but I think Azidi's story pulled at his heartstrings so he decided he would try to win her over. He knows how long it took her before she warmed up to me so seeing even baby steps in just a week's time is pretty rewarding. Thanks everyone for supporting and encouraging him, as others have said, I think time and patience will eventually win her over.

For those of you who don't remember Kilifi, she is the girl I posted about last year who developed a vasculitis which ate away parts of her ears. She is the sweetest little girl in spite of her silly looking ears, and has found a wonderful home with Cary - I couldn't have asked for a better kitty daddy!!

Thank you so much for the kind words Patti. Kilifi's funky ears are one of the cutest things about her. I kiss them all the time. And she shakes her head. LOL
I think Azidi will come around in time. I will wait another week or so to let her out of quarantine, if she will even come out. But I do have to get her to the point where I can take her to meet out Vet.
And yes, Azidi's story did touch my heart. I knew I had to try to help her find a quiet and laid back home Plus, she is beautiful.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes.
I am a little happier today. I had remembered something that Patti told me, that Azidi likes the freeze dried chicken treats. Since I have been unable to get her to eat anything from a bowl, ( she only eats kibble from a self feeder.. and then when I am NOT in the room) I decided to try and see if I could entice her to eat some treats. I picked up some PureBites chicken bits on my way home, and knew I had something when little Kilifi tried to steal the bag from my hand. I gave her a few pieces and they were gone in 60 seconds. So I took some in to Azidi on a saucer at about 3:15. Went back in at 3:45, the saucer was clean. Soooo.... Maybe with some time and patience I can lure her to eat while I am in the room...then MAYBE from my hand????
