true! I lost/escaped/had stolen, a savannah boy. He is microchipped but if someone took him in and never checked, they may have thought that they found a stray! I hope he is alive somewhere with someone like you to take care of him. I will never know. It is always good to check with your local shelter's lost and found, to local vets at least and check for a microchip. I would hate for someone to have judged me as a bad breeder or owner because my cat got out and got lost! It is heartbreaking to be on the other end.
You don't have to be a millionaire to own a Savannah.

I just recently spoke with someone who had their SV deliberately stolen by a roommate bearing a grudge. The guy moved out, took his stuff, and took the cat too. Completely disappeared! They are desperate to find it. The cat had an eye issue that it was scheduled to have surgery on the next week. Without the surgery, the cat will be in horrible pain. As far as I know, he is not been found.

You just never know so the responsible thing is to try to find the owner.

I don't really know them so I don't expect that they will ever call again but yes, it was a really sad situation. The guy that took him has no address so they or the police can not track him. The eye condition would make the cat hard to resell but they could just dump him or give him away.

there were no lost cat signs,he was homeless for at least 5 months, that i'm aware of...and this isn't a neighborhood of people that can afford expensive cats. he has been in this area for 5 months. when cats have been lost here or near by fliers are put up,being the type of person i am i pay attention to those fliers. i take care of many cats and dogs in this area,he touched my heart by how weak and pitiful he looked.he had no collar at all on even in june. he has not fought the collar i put on him. so actually i DO NOT KNOW that he was abandoned. but trust and believe he is MY cat now! i joined this forum for help, not to be thought of as some cat napper. so hey thanks but i'm done here...

So most people here were quite welcoming and Dantes asked a question that is not all that unusual...don't take it personally. This forum is one of the most welcoming I have seen and I have been a member of many forums...if we took everything so personally, there would be no FB or forums.

Hopefully you will stay, but if not, good luck! we are here if you need help...

Gosh, yes. We don't want to make you feel like a cat napper. All of us that have lost cats hope there will be some person out there that will take in our lost stray. I know that it has happened before. I don't think anyone is accusing you of stealing anybody's cat.

I didn't accuse you of anything, I merely asked.

There are plenty of accounts of cats traveling thousands of miles away from home, and being found months and months later. SVs are naturally curious creatures and could easily roam far enough...to the point of getting confused and lost and more confused and lost. My SV is smart, but he does not free roam outside so he would have no idea how to get home if he went too far.

My SV doesn't wear a collar. He is microchipped, though. I would hope that if he did ever get out and get lost, someone would think to check to see if he was lost, rather than saying, cool cat, I want him so now he's mine, without any thought to me or whether I missed him -- theoretically, if he ever got lost, I would be in tears every day he was gone.

If nothing else, you should think that IF he has a family, they probably miss him terribly, and it's cruel to them as well as him to not even bother to check. If he doesn't have a family, then good on you for taking in a stray.

JMO.
