Hello from Thailand,

stanley

Savannah Teenager
I think his issue is the six month required wait when importing - I don't think it matters what country it's coming from...

Dear all,

these are three of the main sites we have been looking at,

http://www.thaiembassy.org/pretoria/en/business/29701-Importation-of-live-animals-into-Thailand.html

http://tielandtothailand.com/shipping-a-cat-to-thailand/

http://www.pettravel.com/immigration/thailand.cfm

but I cannot find the part where I read that the kitten must be resident of the country of export for 6 months prior to being sent, it may have been that I have read it on one of the many expatriate pages in one of the pet sections, it appear that Thailand requires that puppies and kittens are vaccinated at 3 months and wait for 30 days prior to entering the country, so effectively the kitten will be 4 months old when it arrives for its up to 30 day quarantine, I have to say though that importing a kitten is not the route we would like to travel, we would much rather see the breeder and make a choice then, also I feel that having a breeder nearby would be helpful if heaven forbid there might be any problems, we are also not sure about the strain and stress that would be impose by a 12 hour + International flight would have on our kitten, but many thanks for your kind and helpful comments.

Regarding the import of hybrids again I read somewhere that in Thailand if the cat was a hybrid all was well, but I cannot find the source, (we have read so much over the past few months!), but also read that in Singapore,

Note: Bengal & Savannah cat crosses require additional documented proof that they are at least of a 5th-generation cross of ancestral stock before they are allowed into Singapore.

we are still hoping that on Friday a breeder of Bengals might have a connection to a savannah breeder, we live in hope! Best regards to all, Stanley and Diana.

I would worry that the kittens sold in a market might even be Serval kittens. I seem to remember a similar story where someone was sold ALC kittens as "Bengals" in a market in Thailand. That might seem exciting but the exotic cats are much more of a challenge to live with so are not the "bargain" they might appear.

You may well do best anticipating importing a kitten at 4 months. There really is NO reason to want a kitten earlier, I know that many thing that they need a kitten earlier to "bond" but it is my experience that an older kitten handles changes and new situations more confidently and hence will adapt to your home easier after all.

Good luck!

Many thanks for your reply, a 4-6 month old kitten would be fine for us, it is just the thought of a kitten traveling that far and so long in an aircraft puts us off, and as we mentioned before we would be happier to buy from a Thailand based breeder if possible, but if the worse happens and we can not find a breeder in Thailand a Bengal would be our second choice, but we are still hopeful that we will be lucky with a savannah, best regards, Stan and Diana.

CFA doesn't accept Bengals or Savannahs, so you likely won't find breeders of either of those at that show.
