I can't wait to see what he does with raw feeding soon!
Four years ago when I first started reading about raw feeding, I was skeptical about the physical changes that would allegedly occur. At that time, my 14yr old DSH was nearly dead from inflammatory bowel disease, none of the treatments were working and I had nothing to lose so I switched her to raw. OMG. Within a mere 3 days her diarrhea and vomiting stopped. Within a month her coat had changed from dull & dry to sleek, shiny, and vibrant in color. Her energy level went through the roof and she went back to a healthy weight. I was blown away by how such a simple solution saved her life when medical technology couldn't.

That is so wonderful to hear Deborah! I'm glad it made such a positive difference for her! :)

Yeah, I really want to see the difference too. He is shedding quite a bit right now even though his coat is getting softer and shinier than it originally was. I think there will be so many more positives, plus in this growing stage I think that he will benefit more from the raw nutrients and supplements than the over packed dry food.

I'm thinking about stopping by Petco after work today and picking up a little feeder mouse for him to try out for the first time.

Does everyone here that does raw grind everything up? I have been researching it and it seems some people say its better to eat whole foods which allow them to chew and tear the food, cleaning their teeth and a few other benefits. I haven't really seen what the price difference would be between buying whole prey (RodentPro) or making our own. I would think that I would need to find a good butcher to get everything.

I started with ground raw but I was too lazy to buy the grinder and fuss about with ensuring meat/organ ratio, adding supplements and all the other stuff so I started with Feline's Pride which is ground raw then I switched to Rad Cat because I can get it locally. Maggie's age and IBD make it difficult for her to eat whole prey.

My SVs are whole prey eaters. I get quail locally and rodents, chicks, mice & guinea pigs from rodentpro. Rodentpros food is cheap but the shipping is a killer. $200 dollars worth of food, which lasts me about 3-4 mos. costs more than $300 to ship from Indiana to southern Oregon. They have to ship next day or 2-day air. I keep nagging them to open a facility on the west coast and they keep saying they're thinking about it.

Even if you decide to feed raw ground, you can still give him a raw chicken thigh, beef heart, or chunks of meat so he can chew and stimulate his gums.

Wow! That's a HUGE hit on shipping! I can't believe there isn't a West Coast based prey company... Hell, $300 would pay for a round trip plane ticket there and back! LOL! Isn't there another company that does free shipping over $100?

I cost me about 1.20 a pound to grind Paul. I have never done the whole pray, but would try if my daughter was not so gross out by it, lol!Well, she said she would kill me if I did that! lol

I buy foster farm chicken tights from costco .99cent a pound, hearts and liver from PCC Market or trader joes. I get supplements from super sup.

Whole pray is easier and maybe cheaper, not sure. But I hear it can be messy . It's worth a try.

1.20/lb includes everything Marye Kae? That is really good. How long per lb do you think that would last for one cat? Unfortunately we don't have a huge freezer to store large quantities either. We would need to figure out how much we could store at a time.

I would have no problems with feeding whole... ;) I would enjoy seeing him play and get a little messy.

yes, for everything. I fill them in 2 cup freezer containers. The three cat eat about 2 to 3 cups a day of raw and I do give a little kibble. I made 30 pounds the end of December and still have not gone through it all yet. I have a huge freeze in my garage so I can store a lot.

Yeah, that is the only idea I could think of is storing a freezer outside to hold the food. That is a good idea and wow, that is a long time of feeding for the amount (are you talking 2-3cups per cat/day) Or that's what all 3 cats eat total a day?
