Hello Savvy Lovers; from NorCal :)

Hmmmm seems like you have talent there. Bet you could make a little money on the side selling cat furniture ;). great job! Sorte is very lucky to have such a great dad

Thanks everyone. :) He is definitely very happy with it. The first night the shelf was put up, we found him sleeping up there in the morning when we woke up. He definitely wants an intermediate step down though. He jumps down every time, but it still takes him a couple minutes of getting the courage up to do so. LOL!

As for the materials, I bought an 8' 4x6 at Home Depot for about $9, the 100' of Sisal rope for him to scratch on was $10, I got about 20' of the shelf wood at a garage sale for $10 (Home depot was selling the same stuff for $15 per 4' section!), and I went to a local Habitat for Humanity ReStore to get the carpet. It was $10 for a 9x7 roll of very nice carpet. So all together that puts me at $40 for all the materials! That made what you see and will be enough to make another 3-4 shelves to add for his catwalk. So if you're willing to put the work in, it is quite worth it to make your own cat trees/walks. I'm sure if you were to buy just a pole like this one, it would run between $50-100 by itself.

We just got back from a mini vacation in Bodega Bay (North Coast California). It was so beautiful and relaxing up there! My good buddy watched Sorte for us Friday-Sunday morning. Apparently at some point in time wile playing with Sorte with his wand and fly toy, the string got caught on his leg which freaked him out. This in turn made him run through the house, toy attached until the wand got wedged between a chair and broke the tip off.

When we got home today, I went to play with him and he is acting MUCH different when playing with his wand. He will chase and attack it like normal, but as soon as he has a hold of the toy he wants to take off running through the house, dragging the wand behind him! Then when I go to take it from him, he would not let go at all (no growling or scratching on purpose, but he does try to push my hand away as he pulls back with his teeth. I would take it out of his claws and he bites it and I have a hard time getting him to let go. It must have been a semi tramatic event for him.

When I play with Zuri and her toys like that, she does grab hold of it and runs to carry it to her little place, as if it is prey...

Sounds like Sorte just had an experience and may need to calm down a bit.

He used to take his toys to his spots too, but that was more of a (haha, I got it, now let me calmly walk over here to chew on it a bit). Now, it's grab the toy and book it full speed somewhere else! It seems like the wand dragging behind him scares him as he runs too. I've only let him run off with it once though now as I don't want the same thing happening and maybe hurting him from a sudden jolt of the wand being caught on something. I'm sure you're right though Paige. He just needs to get back to the normal play routine and realize that things are OK. LOL!

So, Sorte gave me a good laugh this morning when I woke up. :) He was doing his normal thing, chasing me legs/feet under the covers and talking like crazy saying "Hey. DAD!!! Wake up, I'm hungry!"

I finally got up to go to the bathroom where he always follows me. He loves to watch the water go down as the toilet is being flushed. Only this time. as the water was most of the way down and filling back up he batted at the water quite hard and fast! He got about 10 good bats in before it was refilled. This is the first time he has actually played with moving water (I'm sure he was just taking out some hungry anger though) LOL!

Wow!! I'm sooooo happy right now! :) Sorte just jumped on the couch and laid in my lap for the first time, for a few minutes as I was on the computer! He usually lays by my feet or on a rare occasion lays next to me (as he's doing right now). I had to stop typing and enjoy his company on my lap though while it lasted.

Patti- I agree. I think he approves of me, haha. :)

Paige- It's so awesome to see him get more and more comfortable every day! I love how much he makes me laugh. Somehow, he always seems to do something funny even when he's testing my patience. LOL!
