Actually, I left out what the contact person Sandra had actually written:

Under NE Game Law the only cats that may be possessed or owned by individuals are domestic cats (felis domesticus) so no domestic hybridized with wild cats are permitted. Exceptions in the statute are made for "zoos" and persons raising bobcats or lynx for the "fur trade" business.

The law itself doesn't actually refer to hybrids, only what she writes. It could be that they are not interpreting an F5 as a domestic cat - laws and lawmakers are so arbitrary, drives me crazy! Looks like I need to contact the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to get it clarified.

No cat hybrid but they are ok with wolf hybrid ???
"""
At the opposite end of the spectrum----While purebred wolves are not permitted to be possessed or owned by individuals under NE Game Law, wolf/dog hybrids are permitted. If a person has a 90 plus percent wolf and 10% or even less dog hybrid, it is not considered to be a wolf and is not regulated by NE Game Law."""

I can have a f5 or greater. I called the nebraska humane society and asked and that is what they told me. My vet also told me the same thing.

The place to call is the Nebraska Fish and Game...the humane society often does not know the laws and neither do vets...

i will call them tomarrow and ask. The way they explained it to me is after a certin generation it is not considered a hybrid because the % of wild cat. I will never understand lawmakers. They make it sound like savanahs are vicious animals.

But realize that, unless it is written in law, it is only someone's opinion, not the law. Opinion will NOT stand up in a court of law when you are fighting for the life of your beloved companion - believe me, I know people who have been there, done that... it never comes out well... :(

In animal breeding what is the full definition of hybrid? After what pedigree generation is the animal no longer a hybrid?

Savannah cat is it not a domestic cat already??

States that have generation rules and laws define is more clear

So I can not live in NYC but I can live in NYState with my early generation SV

The wild animals are listed and defined in states where they are illegal.. Judge does not define wild

I can not have a serval in Arizona
without a license ..

I am not a breeder so hope it it not stupid questions.

In biology medicine hybrid is heterozygte

In the world of the Savannah the definition of hybrid is defined by the lawmakers - how backwards is that?! What is worse is that many of these legislators are influenced by animal rights lobbyists and know absolutely nothing about hybrids when they write these laws. The USDA (and TICA) define an exotic x domestic hybrid to be a domestic animal, but many states ignore the USDA definition and create their own.

BTW, you can NOT own an early generation in NY state, only F6 (some say F5 but that is not really how the law is written) or later. You also cannot own a serval in AZ without a USDA license, and you cannot get a USDA license unless you are breeding servals - since USDA considers serval x domestic offspring domestic they do not regulate these breeders so will not issue a license for servals in an F1 breeding program... it's a catch-22, just like so many other ridiculous laws in the states...

:)
If you can not trace the serval in the pedigree can they still call it hybrid?
:)
You have to prove that you sell a serval kitten to have a license
If you do not produce kittens you can not keep the license

:) the law of biology and genetics is not taught much in medical school or law school unless you go onto research
