Hello!

Hi there, I'm catless at the moment, my last cat passed away several years ago at the age of 17, and while I adore my Pug to the ends of the earth, I really miss having a cat, and am looking at adding one to my home in the next year or two. I've always loved the look of Savannahs, and being as much of a dog person as a cat person, I've always really liked what little I've read about them up until now, that they're more "dog-like" in personality and train-ability than other domestic cats, and more social. I quite like the idea of a cat that enjoys and requires more active training and engagement with it's owner, so I'm here to research the breed further over the next 1-2 years and see if it would be a good fit for me. :)

Welcome LittleFrog. This site overflows with stories about living with SVs and info on behavior, health, diet so take your time and read through the vast amount of info here, ask questions, and enjoy the pictures and videos. Lots to learn and think about before deciding to bring a SV into your life.

Thanks! I've done loads of reading here already, and plan to do a whole lot more, I'm a huge fan of research, lol. I do have one quick (I hope, lol) question though. I live in Canada, how would I go about finding out what generations of Savannah are legal in my province? I know Savannahs and Bengals are legal here, but I'm having a heck of a time finding out what generations are legal. Everything I've been able to find only talks about Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC, but I can't find anything out about Manitoba. I'll almost certainly go for a later generation Savannah for my first one if I decide to go ahead and get a Savannah, both due to the price and because I think a later generation would be easier for a first time Savannah owner to manage, so I should be okay, but it sure would be nice to know for sure.

The best source of info would be your province's fish and wildlife department or whatever the Canadian equivalent is called. There are savannah breeders in Saskatchewan and Ontario that you can find through a google search and they may be able to give you the info but I think it's best to hear it from your province's authority.

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately I don't have any information on Manitoba, but I would recommend you try to contact the Manitoba Fish and Wildlife, Agriculture Department, Animal Division: http://www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/animals/index.html

If you are able to discover the laws for hybrid ownership in Manitoba please let me know and I will update the HybridLaw website.
