HELP, can't eat in peace

All good information. I had a friend that was studying human psychology at the time, and he told me that he learned to avoid negative commands for a more effective way of communicating. For example, if you wanted someone to not sit in a specific place, ask them to sit elsewhere, as opposed to saying, "don't sit here." We're all animals, so the same is probably true for cats.

We use a compressed air canister when kitten is being a butthead at dinner. If you do get one, make sure it is without bittergents because I believe they have a very small chance of creating GI distress. They are not always easy to find. I prefer it over the squirt bottle because I'm hoping my kitten takes a liking to water, and I don't want to do even the slightest thing to deter him from that. My cat doesn't have to get wet, and I don't run the risk of accidentally squirting my phone or something. I think it is also similar to the sound of a hiss. The sound alone usually gets him off the kitchen table.

Ugh good idea. Yesterday I was eating some soup in bed, cat came in, hot soup ended up on my leg and my (almost) brand new $2000+ bed! Boyfriend came home later, I was in bed drinking some hot tea, he starts talking with his hands and there goes the tea!!!! Maybe I need to use those tricks on my boyfriend as well! :)
Thank goodness for fancy waterproof mattress covers.

Moral of that story is: don't eat or drink in bed...;)

All my past cats have understood ad respected NO. I think it may depend on whether you are usually trustworthy and reasonable. I have a 10 and a 1/2 week old kitten I have only had for a week and a 1/2 and he already understands when I say NO about chewing a cord and stops right away. I told him it could kill him. Maybe my tone of voice but he seems to get this is serious. (I am not leaving him unsupervised with any live wires though)

But I have been a bit surprised at how he seems to expect me to want to share my food with him. I am mainly a vegetarian and this is the first cat I have had that is all over me when I am eating tofu salad. What seems to be at the root of it is that for him, eating is a social occasion. If I go sit beside his food bowl he is happy to have supper with me and eat from his bowl while I eat out of mine. Even if mine has salmon in it and his doesn't.

My stud loves to sit next to baby while I feed her. He patiently waits for her mess and he eats it up.
