Help! Cat won't stop peeing on the bed!

Taz has had potty issues since we brought him home. Any sofa or bed he likes to pee on. We've actually had to buy both a new sofa and bed. I've tried literally everything I can think of to stop him doing this and nothing works. It's a purely behaviorly thing because he will use his litter box nicely. It usually only happens when we have people over or go out of town and have a neighbor come in and watch him (doesn't matter which neighbor). The ONLY solution I have found is to keep the bedroom doors closed so he can't get to the beds and use the plastic carpet runners spiky side up on the sofas. That way he can't access the areas he likes to pee on. Good luck with your little guy. I hope you can get the problem solved...I've been working with Taz for almost three years now.

I was wondering if the cat is shut up in a room when you are not at home? If so...I am pretty sure this is where the litter box is;>) My thoughts on this..if I am correct on the Shutting him out of other parts of the house for periods of time....HE MAY HAVE DECIDED THAT THIS IS PUNISHMENT AND IS AVOIDING THS ROOM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. This would also mean that if the litter box is in that room....he is not going to go in that room to use it...period. For now...I would place a litter box in each room for a bit. It might not be something you wish to do, but will make it possible to see if the peeing outside the box stops. I think you can turn this around , but it will be trial and error for right now. Make sure there is a box in the room he is peeing in. I hope to hear good things in the very near future. I also wanted to comment on the darker urine. Sorry, but going back to the possible(I DON'T KNOW) room he may be placed in when you are not around to watch him. If his water and food are kept there......he may ,,again be avoiding this room and possibly not going into the room to drink as often as he should. They love to be around their human slaves and he might think that door will close if he goes into a certain room? If none of these things are going on...forgive my blabbering;>)

Thanks for the help again! We aren't ignoring your recommendations, we are following them. I read through the entire Marilyn thread you all had about a month ago and it was a lot of help! We aren't at all regretful of taking him. We love him to death! Just trying to alleviate some of his quirks =p

Matt I tired everything you did and finally contact Marilyn. Problem solved!!! She was wonderful for us 4years ago!!!

I'd probably start doing the nonabsorbable material on the bed too like I had mentioned a while back. Did you try that trick? If not- can't hurt by trying! I think someone had said a tarp or shower curtain.

Trish, we tried plastic on the beds, he actually lays on it and pees on there as well! HA! Resilient little (not so little anymore, we have to send a picture!) guy. We contacted Marilyn and have a Skype session set up for Wednesday. We are hopeful! We will let you all know what we find out! Hopefully it is something we are doing more so than him! But we absolutely love him, thanks for the opportunity to become fosters!
