Oh poor Alpha :-(

It appears from that picture that Alpha is an F1 and possibly a higher % one at that? This really does complicate recovery as you know how much energy and intensity he has from that heritage. It's harder for them to be confined and be at the vet's etc... keep us updated!

Poor Alpha

I think being in a room may be better for him. I hope he doesn't need more surgery. Please keep us updated, Sol

Agree Brigitte. We have a pretty well rehearsed routine with our f1 boys at the vet being hospitalized as they are often moving a lot faster than our boys would like. A towel over the crate door is helpful in keeping them calm and everything you do just needs to be done a lot slower as to establish some trust.

If a vet or a technician show a sign of fear, it's over and there are a few of the ER vets that cause our boys to really misbehave while others can scoop them up and carry them to a different crate.

Make sure to keep us updated.

I think a dedicated room is a better idea for Alpha, even if he is trying to open the door and escape. It will be much harder to inflict damage on himself in there, as long as the room is bare except for some Savannah safe toys, etc.

But way He inflicts damage to himself? We do everything to heal him and every time He does something that ruins all. We just wonder... why ? He has feelings of selfdistruction? He tries to suicide? He doesn't want to live with me? I don' t know how to answer to my friends when they ask me why does He act like this maybe He doesn't want to stay with you, He just want to rum away....

Sol... Is he an HP F1? What breeder died you get him from? Just wondering if the breeder may be able to help you in some way...

You are forgetting that he doesn't understand that all this is done to help him, he cannot know what you understand from the vet. All he knows is that he has been imprisoned in a cage (at the vets) and he wants OUT. He's like a toddler but even harder as we can't explain to him that he's broken bones etc. He didn't intentionally get injured like that, he was more like a toddler that got out of the house chasing something interesting and whoops :-(

What's an HP F1? I'm sorry but I'm not the one that bought him so I don't know the breeder...

Exactly! You are trying to interpret his behavior from a human point of view, but his instincts are completely different than a human's, and what motivates him is completely different as well - although I suspect if you were penned up in a small cage for days on end you might try to escape too!
