Indeed, this is the reason that purchasing kittens from good breeders can be more expensive than those found on Craigslist etc... the amount of testing one might do to ensure that all cats used are as healthy as we can ascertain... it definitely adds up! Bring a new cat into one's program and do a cardiac ultrasound, full bloodwork, PCR testing and you are well over an extra $1,000 over what you paid for the cat.
