Hi - I am new here

Hi!
Just wanted to introduce myself...
I am Jen and I have 1 f2 savannah female (Jules 18mo) , 2 servals (Nemo 6yrs and Nancy 4 yrs) and 1 domestic male Korat (Stealth 4mo).

I am also married for 14 years and have 2 boys, 1 dog, and 1 horse.

I was wondering... right now I use Hare Today, Gone Tomorrow for our raw food diet. Has anyone set up their own poultry or rabbit houses to breed for personal use raw feedings??

Nice to meet you all!
Jen

Hi Jen! If we are doing raw, rabbit is the only thing Kovu will eat. I joke about it being so much cheaper to just whack the wild rabbits that come through our yard all the time (or let Kovu hunt them himself), but I don't think I could actually go through with it. haha I couldn't even buy a whole, skinned, rabbit from the butcher. :/ I'm just too much of a softy.

Welcome Jen! I'd love to hear about your household and your Servals with your Savannah and Korat! And pictures, post pictures!

I don't know how easy it is to grow rabbits, my impression was it couldn't be hard, after all the saying goes "breed like rabbits"...but a friend of mine tried it a year or so back and really didn't produce too many... I live right in the city so it's not an option for me... but I think it a good idea to at least try out! As long as you think you can handle the slaughtering. I spent some of my childhood on a farm so it doesn't so much horrify me but I did find working in a laboratory and doing some mice experiments that constant killing really affected me long term... so I am obviously not meant to do that kind of thing :-(

No... we just picked them up at the end of September and they were not indoor cats. We are hoping any babies we get from them will come inside with us. I plan to be hands on with the kittens so they are house friendly and people friendly.

Nemo is more friendly, where I picked them up from, they were outdoor cats only, and seemingly used for breeding purposes only vs. pet purposes. We are trying to acclimate them to us. But since I am the only one home all day, they are better with me.

We have their 150 sqft enclosure shared at the moment butted up to a decent size 200 sqft shed that I have placed a radiator in at 60f. Surprisingly in the 2 months they have been in there, they have been VERY clean. I was expecting spraying. They go outside and lounge in the sun and do their business. They are very acceptable to each other, except for feeding - That can get a bit tricky. The outdoor enclosure can be subdivided in to 2 separate 50 Sqft sections with another area that can be either a 50sqft section or 25 sqft sections.

I have a chair in there and sit with them for a few hours every day also. Nancy is still very cautious. Nemo loves playing a odd version of soccer with me and a tennis ball size ball. Nancy will sit back and watch us.

Hi Jen.
I'm new here too, ....I think! Just getting back into the game since we got our 1st F2 from Joyce in Oklahoma (the woman who started it all) about 14 yrs ago. Now just got our 3rd, A F2B; LOL, when I got my 1st SV way back they didn't have SV to Sv breedings yet, so there were no B's and C's. F3's were the new thing back then. Anyways, the breeder that we got our F2B from buys 100lb's of raw chicken in bulk, then grinds it up in one of those heavy duty grinders, adds taurine and I think a bit of other aminos and the cats love it. Looks like ground beef except it's Chix and there is ground bone in it. Also no odor stools! Imagine that. Don't heat it up or cook it as the bone chips will turn into little pieces of glass..Not good! Beats canned anyday I think. Oh yeah, don't use the chicken that is flavored with broth or salt etc.

Oh wow, you are going to raise Servals? That's quite the endeavor! Have they had babies together before then?

Hi!
I would LOVE no smell stool! But, right now I just take it and throw it in the horse manure pile... so smell or no smell, the whole pile stinks! :)
