I have the opportunity to get one. But...

Do you give a free travel health certificate for every pet you sell but don't ship? The expectation for that just doesn't make sense to me.

What do breeders give to pet parents upon adoption when there is no shipping involved?

I don't ship kittens, but when people are flying in to fetch a kitten I get them a health certificate. I'm pretty lax about costs but I remember the last time I did this the person insisted on paying for it. It seems obvious that it would be an additional cost...unless the breeder has represented the price as an all-inclusive of shipping thing, which I have seen very occasionally.

I give health records (so vaccination info and anything from the vet visits they've had before leaving...usually at least two visits), kittens come with at least two FVRCP vaccinations and microchip (I prepay the registration) and registration papers (I pay for that also as I like to have them registered). Also I have them FIV/FeLV tested just to be sure of their status (having had the FeLV scare with Zari I will never take that for granted again). Then usually there is short-term food supply of what they are used to eating, some toys they like to play with, and often a baby blanket with smells of "home" (if I've been good and remembered that). Oh and most leave with a walking jacket too as I like to have started them in one before they leave home.

No contracts were mentioned and they asked no questions at all- which was another thing I felt odd about. I think I will give you an email~ ^^

And they say she is 10 weeks old and ready to leave. Again, that sounded odd to me.
I would feel concerned if a breeder didn't ask me any questions at all (well unless I already knew them well)... after all, this indicates that they don't care where the kitten goes only that someone purchases it! The only other exception I could think of is if your introductory email was really extensive. The home that adopted my adult girl Nadiya recently sent the BEST email with so much information I really wasn't left with any questions! I really had to work on that as I felt I needed to...

And then a breeder that isn't interested in the home offering for the kitten beyond the money, they really aren't going to be interested in helping you with advice or support after you have given them that money :-(

After reading all this all I can say is I think You ALL are great & thanks to a beautiful contract & lots of emails I got my soul-mate sleeping in my lap. Stormi be careful where you lose your heart...& never be scared to ask the "DUMB" questions because those are the ones that will either make you run or spend your hard earned $$.

I have decided not to go with them. The kitten is amazingly cute, but I don't feel right going through them. My gut just says something is not right.

I have been chatting with Patti~ I don't want to say too much as I don't know what will happen still. But I do know I have at least the chance to purchase from a trust worthy and reputable breeder.

Hi Stormi,
Absolutely trust your gut!
But, i will say that I got my Loki (pictured) from RollinRidge and that Ron and Ridgley are fantastic people, and totally trustworthy. I highly recommend them and their spotless cattery. Loki was the picture of health when i got him, and continues to be to this day. He is also a major snuggle bug and professional head-butter. The ONLY thing i was not thrilled with was their choice of food for the cats - Iams. It took me a while to get him transitioned onto better food.

Whatever you choose, best of luck!

I don't do a health certificate generally for those driving to fetch their kittens because like Trish mine have already been to the vet twice. IF a breeder did their vaccinations and microchip at home I could see the sense in getting the health certificate just so the vet HAS done a health check on the kitten before leaving.

I don't include health certificates in my price-- I already do all of their shots, rabies, microchip and spay/neuter. Currently, my health certificate costs are $80 at my vet (I think it's a bit high myself.) Since my kittens are already in to see a vet and be handled by a vet (obviously) to be altered, I also find it a bit redundant to go back to a vet to get a health certificate when a kitten isn't flying out to its new owner.

But to each their own :) I know everyone doesn't microchip and everyone doesn't spay/neuter before sending home-- to me, those are necessities :D

My vet gives me the health certificate with their last visit....
