Yes and the more experienced breeders have a sharper eye than I do.

But you are right...it is difficult to "type" a kitten based on looking like another breed...and yes, the kitten also looks like a Toyger, so who knows? Unless you know from whence the kitten came (breeder, pedigree, etc)., it is pretty much a crapshoot.

And no, just because it looks like a Toyger, doesn't make it so.

There is no issue...as I said, you are welcome here and no one minds...it is just that we cannot tell you for sure what breed your kitten is, if any specific breed breed. He is adorable and healthy and that is all that matters.

Sorry to cause a huge issue, coming somewhere I shouldn't be.
No no no...it's not a huge issue, at least not for me! I can understand wondering, but just think you need to ask your friend. I think he/she will appreciate knowing how much you love the kitty!

I also don't think there's any rules on this forum that you *must* own a pedigreed Savannah...why couldn't you be here just to learn about and love them?

Sorry if I came off negative, it wasn't my intention.

To me, this looks like a beautiful, sweet tabby, who will probably grow ino his role as master of your household pretty quickly. Savannah is not a description of looks, it goes to whether there is Serval down the line somewhere. You need to ask.
In the meantime, eighteen claws, four legs, muscles and eyes, ears and teeth surrounding a developing mind is, I'm sure, going to give you a lovely and lovable companion whatever his background. A cat is, after all, basically a cat!
ps: read your TS Eliot's book called Old Possums Book of Practical Cats. It starts with the following:
"The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey -
All of them sensible everyday names.

There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter -
But all of them sensible everyday names.

But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum -
Names that never belong to more than one cat.

But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover -
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name. "

That is fantastic! Now when people ask me why I named my cat such a long crazy name, I have an answer! :)

Very likely he is not a specific breed or maybe a later generation outcross/mix? Toygers are basically Bengals with stripes and developed to more closely resemble a tiger than the asian leopard cat. If you want a way of approaching the people who gave him to you, why do you say you would love to know the breeder so that you could register him. :)

Tennesa, he's a beautiful kitty and congratulations :) Can you take a pic of him from behind so we can see what the back of his ears look like. Often but not always, Savannah's will have oceli on their ears or markings that are kind of derived from the oceli of the serval. Even many later gen sv's carry this trait, just not nearly as prominent as earlier generations. In any case, you are certainly welcome to be here, so please don't take it as a negative from the comments people have given. They're just perplexed as it's sometimes quite difficult to tell for sure and we're all just trying to look for certain little details that may help with a definitive identification. I've seen many early gen SV's that don't have typical SV markings because sometimes the cats that were used in the outcrossing had very dominant genes and some of the serval traits get lost. So by no means was anyone saying that yours positively isn't a SV. Infact most were saying how Bengal like your kitty is and it's become very common for people to use Bengal's as the outcross breed to keep the wild markings. so it's VERY possible that you do have a later gen SV that has very dominant Bengal genes. In any case, you've got a beautiful lil kitty and the person who gave him to you obviously cared a lot about you to give him to you to help you through some difficult times and that's as beautiful a thing as anyone could do for another. As you mentioned earlier, an SV's personality really is unlike any other cat I've ever had before and unfortunately, that doesn't come through in pictures either, so his personality may more indicative of his ancestry than his markings too. Enjoy and please feel welcome around here, it's a very knowledgeable group of people and much of the information is applicable to any cat breed when it comes to a lot of the health or training etc.

Just for a little update. Tanessa sent me a picture of the back of him and he's got the Ocelli that are common in SV's. Not super prominent like in an F1 or F2, I'd say probably more like an F3-to F4 SV. His fur does seem a little bit long which I think might be throwing some people off, but that certainly can be a result of his outcrossings. I'm not a breeder and still new to the SV game, but I did do 3 years of on again off again research before I finally decided on ownership, and what I think might be the case with this kitten is that he might be an F4ish but not an F4C, probably like an F4B which might give him more of the dominant traits of the domesticated cat blood. But his ears are very similar to the ears on Shelby, my F3B. Hopefully she'll chime in and post a pic so you guys can see what I mean.
