I think my cat is a Savannah?

Before you say anything lol, yes, we know she is overweight . But, since our vet told us she might be an exotic cat like a savannah, we have gotten a much better food to make sure she stays healthy.

But i'm sure you are the experts !

We got Freya around 12 weeks on facebook for $10. We always knew that she was a little different than most cats, and we did not know anything about Savannahs.

Now she is around 1 year old. She is around 11 lbs...now? Will she continue to grow if she is savannah? She is a very vocal cat. She loves to play with our 15lb yorkie mix, Odin. They grew up together. She grooms him. They play a lot, but they never get hurt. She JUMPS. Gets on top of cabinets. She follows me around, darting back and forth, forward and behind. Lol.

We chose not to have her declawed, which has turned out to be a great decision, as she is very gentle. Rarely ever get sratched. She loves to get rubbed and patted on belly. She will also get in the tub about half full on he own. Runs around trilling.
Very loving. Comes to name. Will sleep on or near us. She kind of roars/growls? when she plays with Odin. She carries my girlfriend's hair ties around and plays with them, and then drops them in the toilet or the *garbage disposal .* She has LITERALLY knocked 20 toilet paper rolls, usually full of course, right into the toilet. From a countertop 16 inches from the OUTSIDE of the toilet bowl rim. . She is either has superpowers or is a ninja. Idk..Super soft and thick coat.

Bottom line is, what do you think???

Do you know why your vet thought she might be a Savannah? There are a lot of spotted cat breeds out there, and plain domestic shorthairs come in the spotted tabby form also. 17 years ago we adopted a spotted kitty from the SPCA that was similarly crazy and personable and I am sure nowadays people would speculate she was a Savannah mix... but she was a spotted domestic shorthair. There were no Savannahs here at that time... after her tragic early death (dinner party lead to her escape right out under a car :-( ) we did get a Savannah, but had to have him shipped from TX as that was the closest breeder we could find back then. Anyway, my point is that personality is not a breed indicator...we might choose a specific breed for their personality traits but those can also be found in mixed breed cats, just it is harder to predict personality in a kitten in a shelter with no background (or off a Facebook ad).

For me, her face is too short and round along with her body type being short and round...it's just not very Servally. I just don't see anything in her physical structure that leads me to think she is anything but domestic shorthair. Doesn't mean she can't be... we do see registered Savannahs that could be mistaken in a shelter for a domestic shorthair, but the converse doesn't apply. All we can do with cats of unknown heritage is to compare their looks to the Savannah breed standard to see how they resemble what a Savannah should look like.
