I read the article and actually found it offensive. I'm a former US Marine infantryman and currently a physical therapist.

I was already in graduate school for chemistry when I applied to medical, vet, and PT graduate schools, getting into all three. I was raised on a farm and am a true animal lover. I also have hunted since I was very young. Although I rarely hunt, I haven't in several years, I still enjoy competition shooting.

To say that hunters can't be animal lovers is very narrow minded and hypocritical. It's almost like saying that only vegetarians can be animal lovers.

I can't tell you the numerous animals I've taken in, cared for and in many cases adopted

I do find all of this information very eye opening. I hope my situation is different with the new owners.

Thanks you all for all the advice and opinions.

Trophy hunting isn't the same as hunting to eat so yeah, I don't think the author needs to defend their thought process on this. Hunting animals for s&g isn't the same as hunting and eating your kills.

And while I wasn't an infantry man, I was in the Corps as well and do find it an odd combo, trophy hunter/breeder, and it does leave a foul taste in my mouth.

I agree with Trish on this one. Hunt to eat = ok. Trophy hunt means animals are viewed as a commodity. Large commercial breeder of SVs means animals are a commodity. It's hard not to compromise your values at some point when you raise animals as commodities.

I just can't separate... Okay, here is this gorgeous lion. I'm going to shoot him and hang his head on my wall. Here is a gorgeous Savannah kitten. I'm going to hand raise and love him.

I can see... Here is a deer. Ill shoot him, eat him, hang his head on my wall. Here is a Savannah kitten. I'm going to hand raise and love him.

Just seems contrary.

He also insinuated gun owners. It is an odd combo for businesses but he could be a gun enthusiast and his wife a cat lover for all I know. I'm not defending them at all! I just take issue with the tone and stereotyping. I know several people that trophy hunt but use all of the meat for food. I do believe that if you hunt it then you should eat it.

Just because someone doesn't see things the same way is no reason to think you understand someone's heart and logic. That's a very arrogant position to take.

I can see your view but I would never assume to understand something I've never tried. I don't know their reasons or motivations.

Those people that just shoot and leave laying. That I don't understand and think is cruel

Many people just don't view animals the same as others. Those that kill indiscriminately and for fun or without remorse are the bad ones. I don't know this man but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'll assume the positive not the negative.

I also hunt but I have not in the last 5 years, I have never hunted a fenced game ranch, that is not hunting. I am a currant NRA member and gun collector and a shooter, I did go to the web site Centerxxxx and as a collector his prices are high in my opinion , in the African hunt pic's he is holding up a small dead wild cat. Why shoot something you can't use ? In my opinion this guy is just chasing the dollar . How many breeders here would sell their name and reputation when they stop breeding? as Ax Savannah

I didn't go to his site. Is that all that has happened? The name of the cattery is sold? What about the actual kennel and cats? Was this purchased as well? I do have some serious doubts now about my decision on breeders. I was given some bad advise so it sounds
