Incision after surgery

All of my domestic girls had to wear a cone to keep them from licking and biting the incisions. Elas is a good, lucky girl.

Today's incision for the first day we took a step backwards... The redness has returned... Elsa is back to jumping full speed and nothing I do will slow her down short of confining her in her carrier and that does not really work!!! The incision is still not draining or oozing, and she is not scratching, licking, biting, or anything else to it.

Anyone have any opinions or ideas???

Rafiki's incision was very red for over a week and she had the regular surgery, not the orthoscopic one. She licked it like a little maniac but did not need the cone because they used surgical glue instead of stitches. She was spayed the day before I got her and I did not even attempt to confine or limit her movement. And yes, some days it looked better and some days worse. I think that as long as it is not opening or becoming infected (pus), it should all be good.

And BTW, there is no evidence of a scar at all. Rafiki can confidently wear a bikini and I am sure that Elsa will to!

The problem that I have is that almost all the redness went away, and now it has returned... That is what has me a little concerned.

Rafiki's did as well but as long as it is not opening or showing signs of infection, she should be fine. She may simply have licked and irritated it a bit. I realize why you are so concerned given her history. Try to get some sleep and see how she is in the morning. You are a good servant!

If she is not in pain, which she obviously is not playing full spreed, then she is OK. And I hate to be tough with you, but stop worrying MOM. She may have irritated it somehow to make it red again. Like Rafiki said some days will be red some not. Just be calm John. She is fine.

Signs of infection? that is a question that I am not sure I can answer... When I touch the incision area it is more solid that the rest of the area, hard to the touch. I do not know if that would be a sign or not.
