Introducing adult neutered males

Not yet. But they are not killing one another. LOL They are calming down. It was very volotile in the beginning, but now they just look at each other. Of course Kilifi is still on her leash, so Azidi has some safe area where Kilifi cannot go. Then they just look at each other. But each day they are a little more relaxed and quieter.

BTW Charley, yours are much less uptight then mine. I could never put them close together eating like you did in that one picture. You are way ahead of me. :)

How long has it been?

We're on 3 weeks. We actually had a great day today. Jengo came down, assumed one of his favorite spots while Wigs ran around playing. Wigs has approached him but thus far there is some hissing and swatting but Wigs runs away and seems unimpressed. Wigs can't chase him anymore because he won't run so things are simmering down a lot. I've never seen Jengo so self confident before.

I got Azidi in early April. But it was a month before I could even touch her, she was so skittish. I have been trying to put the girls together for a little over a month. A little at a time. Azidi is still in the process of bonding with me. And our situation is a bit different. Kilifi is 15 months old now and I have had her since January. I got Azidi as a friend for Kilifi when my DSH Merlin passed. Kilifi was grieving so bad. Azidi was one of Patti's rescues and a 3 yr old retired breeder. She had a bad early kitten hood as she was in a wildfire. And before Patti got her, she was not well cared for. Also she was sick and had to be medicated for a while, so she was not to trusting of people. I have had my hands full just earning her trust. But I think I am there trust wise, just need her to be more relaxed around Kilifi. Kilifi like to chase, and Azidi runs from her so... you can guess. :)

It's now been 5 weeks for my three. 8, including quarantine. My males, Ziggy, the newest addition, and Jax, continue to be best of friends and playmates.

Oni, my female, continues to be standoffish with both. She hisses at Jax, but there's more sniffing and, maybe, surreptitious playing at night. Oni and Ziggy have their ups and downs. Ziggy has taken to picking on Oni when we've had to tell him something like "Get down from the counters". He charges her, but it's not clear if it's mean or play or a bit of both. Other times they'll be playing within feet of each other with no problem, just not together. Yet. They all do eat together, with Jax in a crate because he's a total pig!

We're taking Ziggy and Oni out on walks together, which is working pretty well. And we put their walking jackets on inside when they continue to fuss at each other, and that helps a lot.

Best wishes with your two!

Do your kitties run around full time yet or do they still spend time in quarantine? We've still got Wiggles in his room at night and for a few hours on and off during the day. Jengo still is pretty stand offish with him, but then again after 2 years he's stand offish with everyone except me.

At this point I don't know if they will ever be friends. They don't fight which is good. Jengo is a slow truster.

My goal is within the next couple of weeks to be able to leave them unsupervised like at night to run around but for now we are still keeping them separate when we leave and sleep.

Ziggy (the newest addition) now usually stays with Jax as they are best friends. They are out and about as long as someone is home. As Ziggy and Oni are still having tiffs we don't trust it to get out of hand with no one there. It helps that I work from home unless I'm on a trip, and the next trip is mid July.

Ziggy also has a fascination with things metal, including cords. He strangely licks the air right by the object (Carolyn's bicycle and the stereo cables are his favorite right now). Maybe that's it, but it's unnerving to have his tongue so close to a power cable, so we're protecting cables. His quarantine room is set, so he 's safer there unsupervised.

Sounds like a good plan. Give it time. I know of cats that took a year or more to like each other, but are now best friends. The issue with cats is that you can't force it. All you can do is make the introductions as stress less as possible and let them do the rest.

Last night I let Ziggy and Jax go anywhere. There were a couple of small tiffs between Ziggy and Oni, but nothing I had to do anything about. Oni is now fine if she has an out, even if Ziggy rushes her (he really wants to play), unless she feels cornered. Then there's yowling and batting, but nothing beyond that.

What I miss is sleeping with Oni. Ziggy now always sleeps with us, and, even if I sleep separate from Ziggy, Oni is still too ticked off to cuddle. She still loves being petted, at least.

I was told, " If it is to be, it will be." I know you want them to be buddies and get along. But sometimes it doesn't happen. My Kilifi and Azidi may become friends, but they also my just tolerate each other. I will be happy if it is non violent.
Charley, you are light years ahead of me with your kids. You may see some days when Jengo is upset with you, That will be normal. He will get over it. Mine do that. Just know I wish you the bestest luck with your furbabies.

I hope your guys start getting along better. I know how stressful it is when they don't! I was getting upset hearing about how others where having an easy time (friends I know) and looking at my situation of still keeping Wiggles after 3 weeks locked up at night and when we are away. Then I read others who are having a harder time and am thankful.

It's a process. I hope yours get better. Do they each have strong personalities? Mine do not, which may be the reason it's a little warmer here. Jengo is skittish, it almost works to our advantage and Wiggles is a cats cat although he likes people so he's very good with approaching nicely and running away at the slightest hiss.

I also stopped free feeding when Wiggles arrived because Jengo had gotten overweight by a pound. They've started associating each other with feeding times which really helps. They eat nicely together.

If it helps my friend had a feral cat for about 10 heard when a little girl found her way into my friends garage and refused to leave. We couldn't find her home so my friend eventually took her in and kept her. She had her taken care of at the vet and then decided to keep her forever. The feral cat was NOT happy and when I say he's mean that feels like an understatement. He has clawed me for no reason, hissed when I've gone to cat sit for her and even once clawed hard he got stuck in my leg warmer. He's awful - very sweet with my friend but no one else. She travels for work so the first 6 months were very hard but here they are two years later and they play, they sleep with each other and groom one another. The feral cat is still pretty crotchety but he's happier, more trusting and he loves his sister. This is a cat we thought if care wasn't taken would kill the new girl and here they are. They play fight a ton. It's been good for the feral cat, he's much less aggressive, more social and because she fights back he's a little weary about being so violent. It took a long time but they do well together now. They both have very, very strong personalities which made it take longer. But it did have a very happy ending.

Jengo still sleeps with us which is great. We've kept the bedroom as kind of the last bastion. Last might I had both kitties curled with me. Jengo was under the blanket and Wiggles just curled up next to the blob of Jengo and had no idea he was there, lol. Jengo scooted up to my chest but laid there nicely for awhile. Then wiggles kind of figured out he was there, it was a short chase, a hiss from Jengo and Wiggles came back and sat with us. Within 15 minutes, Jengo was back snooping around.

We fell asleep on the couches last night so it was the first time Wiggles has been out at night but he stayed tight to my boyfriend sleeping all night and when I got up to go to the real bed I went upstairs and found Jengo in his usual spots sleeping away, took him to bed, and got immediate cuddles.

I work from home too right now so I can manage them and supervise. They only growled the first week after that hisses, swipes and bites. Once they were able to get a good look at each other safely, they both relaxed.
