It's been almost 3 years that I found this site and introduced myself. A lot has changed and I thought I'd do an update...
Sadly, Oakley lost his battle with cancer in last November and after 4 happy years post-treatment, his kidneys gave out and he died peacefully at home with us both holding him. He was only sick for a few days and we took turns staying with him so he was never alone. He held out until I got home from work on the final day and we made sure he was placed in every one of his favorite spots before his eyes told us it was time to go. At that point we moved him to our bedroom where he had slept with us every night, and he closed his eyes for the last time.
His brother Gryphon came out of Oakley's shadow and became even more bonded with us, while still being a parent figure to our Savannah, Calyx. He coped well with the loss of his littermate and although he had major health issues as a youngster needing reconstuctive surgery, looked like he was going to live a long time. While we were away on a ski vacation, our sitter found Gryphon unexpectedly ill. He was hospitalized and had all testing done. Despite surgery and iv medication, his liver and bowels were damaged and he died overnight in hospital before we got to see him. This was a very hard loss for Calyx, who had bonded primarily with him. Calyx went through a long complicated grieving process and is now starting to improve daily.
In the meantime, we had adopted an 8 wk old feral kitten from a shelter who I swear is part Savannah. He has the looks, the brains and the loyalty. Raleigh is now 1 yr old and exhibits the best personality traits of Oakley, Gryphon and Calyx.
Which brings us to now... we are about to become the parents of a new high percentage F6SBT! We are naming him Summit Seymour, Summit because hubby cannot agree on any other name I came up with, and the fact we fell in love with his photo while skiing in the mountains at Lake Tahoe. He is coming to Toronto from Vancouver in early May!
The first 2 photos are of Raleigh and the 2 kitten photos are of Summit.
