I buy the big cans & Eddie, & Mojo each eat one....that's just breakfast. They get dry all day long, raw in the evenings...treats are Blue Buffalo Chicken & Crunchy Temptations Chicken...plus whatever they can get off our dinner plates lol. John was definitely right about the RAW decreasing the gas & stench! Revolution is our monthly BFF & we enjoy climbing everything, will post pics soon in Eddies Album.

Welcome to you and George! George is very lucky that you took him in and are caring for him. It is great that you found a food that works for him, and he is eating like a racehorse! I'm sure he has a lot of catching up to do.

Zeddie eats between 4-6 oz of raw/day at 2 years old and approx. 10 lbs. 6 oz every day makes her fat though. She lost a lot of weight (vet thinks IBD as well) so she ate like crazy to catch up and then evened out.

In my experience, it is typical for a cat who has been fed a low quality diet to eat a lot when it is given a higher quality food. The appetite increase can last for a few weeks to a few months. The smelly poop resolves once the impurities from the poor diet have worked their way out of the cat's system.

Rafiki is a 12 lb, 17 month old F3 female. She eats 6-8 oz of raw meat per day.

I settled on Soulistic Aromatic Chicken. Its a shredded in gelee chicken and its made by Weruva for Petco. Its inexpensive and it has less calories but more water and that makes me feel better about his non water intake. So far he will eat it at every meal if I give him an occasional chicken and tuna flavor (every few days) can but don't make the mistake I did and buy the tuna and surimi crab, it has sorbitol in it and I didn't do my due diligence and check before I bought it. George is still gassing a few days later. The Wellness slices in gravy did okay for the first few weeks but eventually he walked away and I can't get him to eat pate' even if I make it look like gravy. If he doesn't want it he will leave it until I have to throw it away and even if I offer it to him again he will eat a few bites and leave it.

When I got him he weighed about 11 lbs and I was told he ate 1 or 1 1/2 5.5oz can once a day (and he did the throwing up thing for the previous owner as well and foul stools) but when I got him was throwing up bile inbetween the 2 (5.5 oz can) meals I gave him so I read that he needs to eat more often if he has ibd and is throwing up bile so I split him up into 4 meals a day and tried to do the 3 oz cans but he would scarf them down and look for more. Even with the 4 5.5 oz cans he cries before the next meal is planned so I am not sure if he has an eating disorder or needs it split up even more but until he looks fat I guess he is okay. You could feel his backbone through his skin when I got him but now he is filled out and feels normal when you touch his back and his tummy feels firm and normal.

I will get some pictures of him, the vet thought his lower weight was good and that he was a little thin but that was healthy but under the circumstances I didn't want to take a chance. He used to get shot with a nerf gun for crying for food (yes, he is very very loud and irritating but I don't think punishing him is the answer) so I'm really trying to make meal times pleasant and let him know he can ask for what he needs, if that makes sense. He got out a few years ago and mauled by a cat or dog (he has a little tear in his ear still from that) but was found a few days later under a neighbor's porch and had the liver thing from not eating while he was lost. This cat has been through a lot so I probably baby him too much but its hard not to. I am so lucky to have him because he is so sweet and gives so much in return. The first few weeks I had him he licked my hand raw and never left my side...how can you not feel loved by a cat like that?

Anyhow, thanks for the welcomes and I feel luckier than him because he does so much to comfort me. There is something so different about this cat than any other cat I have had so I'm the lucky one!

I feed Elsa Innova Canned Cat and Kitten, Dry is Royal Canin Kitten, and Raw I feed her Chicken Tenders from the local grocery store, fresh meat depart. That chicken seems to be the cheapest.

You are welcome... I think you comfort him just as much or more than he comforts you.. It is a 2 way street so to speak.
