Introducing Zuri!

Laura W

Savannah Super Cat
Zuri came to us through SV Rescue and came home on Saturday. It is reported his owner was afraid of him and he had possibly been abused b a man. We are happy to have him join our family and to start the process of introducing him to our home and helping him understand that life can be good and humans can be trusted and loved. He will join our F3 SV Female, Bengal and Jungle bob as well as Miniature Schnauzer and Bassett/doxie.

SV Cat Chat helped me so much when we took on F2 Echo few yrs ago. I couldn't have done it without all the help and support from the folks here. Thank you so much! For those that don't know, Echo passed away very suddenly a little over a year ago and left a huge hole in our hearts. Zuri is not to replace Echo, but to help another SV understand life can be good. I'm sure I will be reaching out for help with him also.

This morning I got to be the "victim" of his charging. He crouches to the floor, fluffs up all his fur and tail and runs towards you. He wasn't sure what to do when I just stood there and talked to him and grabbed a toy to see if he wanted to play. This afternoon, we get snarling face with no sound, but also soft eyes when talked to and soft blinking to him. He has displayed no fear of "the man" and he makes a point of going in a nd spending time with him throughout the day and feeding him. I think Zuri is pretty confused at this point that we aren't afraid of him and he can't intimidate us, but it is a good confusion. He is enjoying going out to his catio when it cools off in the evenings. Catio is still a work in progress. I'll add photos as we continue.

He is quickly on the way to stealing our hearts!

Laura, you've been there and done that and I have every confidence that you will be as successful with Zuri as you were with Echo. You were awesome with Echo -- never expecting more than he was willing to give and getting much more than you expected and under your love and care he grew into a content and confident cat who knew he was loved. I'm looking forward to watching Zuri reach his full potential with you.

I'm so glad that his rush at you did not get a reaction...and that that worked to stop him... hopefully you've managed to nip that in the bud... he's not expecting that to work for him anymore!

Is he willing to play with you yet then with the wand toy?

His rush was nothing to react to. He stopped the moment I spoke to him. It wasn't a simple spray bottle he was being squirted with but a pump water gun when he was rushing prior. No wonder he was freaking out.

Not playing yet. He watches the wand and had forward ears for a moment so he thought about it briefly. I was given 3 of his toys and bought a him a few more, but he loves going out in the catio in the evenings. I figure I will just keep trying and at some point he will play. No reason to rush him. I'm pretty happy he isn't threatened by the man. All animals love him though.
