Introducing Zuri!

Thanks for the update! It's ok that it's taking time--and it's encouraging he's interested in Monte. And it's great you're just hanging out with him sometimes.

I'd sit with Ziggy or lie on the floor and read a book or read emails for hours. One day he decided he liked laying close touching my lower leg. That one thing led to another. But each cat is different, obviously.

Do you know if Zuri has ever been on leash? I was able to get a harness on Ziggy and let him explore the rest of the house on leash. Zuri sounds like he might still be to frightened or skittish to put up with that.

If not, bribery with chicken may help if he's reluctant to go back to his room.

Sounds like he's quite intelligent--and he likes chicken treats. Maybe a structured approach to socializing him might work--like clicker training. Sounds like he's not sure what you want--once he gets what you want with the first simplest clicker training--touch nose to stick or go to mat, things might "click" for him in a way they haven't yet, and he may understand you better. My cats all understood touch nose and go to mat in about 15 minutes each.

Thanks for the update, it's great to hear that Zuri is continuing to progress, no matter how slow. You obviously have good intuition and insight into him which is so helpful when deciding what step(s) to take next, and how far to take him with each new step you take.

Grrreat news indeed.!!! Far as the hissing, thinking he's just had enough of humans, tired of being jerked around, and letting you know that you are on probation. :roflmao:

Great update, Laura! Thank you for sharing! I'm looking forward to a report once Danny is back and you can let zuri roam a bit more... I often wonder what was done to him to make him so fearful :(

Unfortunately, I got a slight insight into a couple things when I picked him up. :( Very nice person, but not sure how to help Zuri and the other SV adapt.

I am taking it slow because I don't want him traumatized any further. He is extremely smart and will be an awesome cat with time. We have no regrets with our decision to add him to our family.

Thank you again for helping us bring Zuri home. :big grin:

Zuri meeting Mitzi tonight. Fluffy tails, slight hissing, and he stayed crouched low, but then he played with me in his room while Mitzi watched. The opening to his room is completely enclosed so he can now see into where we spend most of our time, hear everything and all the other furkids and he can now see each other and sniff without anyone getting hurt. I'd say this is progress even though he still won't let me touch him, but that is okay, we'll get there. :big grin:

All the cats played together with Da Bird, taking turns getting it with Zuri still on the other side putting his paws through the gate holes and then had a chicken dinner together. He is so curious and if he see Monte, the bassett/doxie, he runs over to see him, ears forward and with a happy look in his eyes. He even ate from Danny's hand this evening. This is going better then I anticipated.

Wow, that is really spectacular! I am so happy to hear this...so...is he still going to be Danny's cat?
