Is getting a little tracking device a good idea?

Hi all,
I have been lurking a while, and finally decided I was ready to get my first cat for myself. I finally decided to adopt an awesome 2 year old! I love him already, but he has shown the ability to be quite adventurous which has me a bit worried.
I am leaning towards getting one of these new little devices http://newsdailynow.com/2015/11/16/pet-tracking/ . That little device is about the size of a small coin so it doesn't seem like it should bother him much. As a pet owner, I can't see why it wouldn't be a good idea to use one.

Does anyone think wearing one will cause any problems?

-thanks in advance!

The article didn't mention what the range is. Often if it is designed for keys and household items, the range is only about 10 ft or so.

We've discussed similar devices before and the consensus seemed to be that they're not effective for the distance a cat may travel if it escapes the house. Microchipping is essential if you haven't already done it.

Welcome!

Agree with Deborah, and we would love to see some pictures of your cat. Male , female, name and what makes you think they're prone to being a door darter? It's a topic where there is certainly a lot of advise to be had.

I like the idea of sewing a little phone inside the walking harness that you can track

I agree that the device's range would be important to know before investing in it. It certainly wouldn't hurt - most cats are actually found quite close to home when they bolt outside, but with Savannahs, they are so easily distractable it's hard to say how far they'l wander before they realize they're lost...
