Is Loki lonely or sick???

I dont know what else to do.
So Loki (an f6 9 month old male Savannah) normally follow me around the house. If I go pee hes sitting right there. If I take a shower hes sitting looking in the shower waiting on me to get out. He even sleeps with me. But lately he has been really quiet and totally antisocial.

It just seems like he doesnt want to play or anything. I tried playing with him with his wand and he just looks at it. He use to love when I would hide from him and would come running up as I jumped out at him. Now he just stand back and wait for me to look out. And even then he just looks at me. This has been going on for about a week. Now he likes to sleep in the junk spare room.

The other day I threw some deflated floats in the room and now he sleeps on them. Once I picked him up and brought him in my bedroom where he use to sleep and he jumped off the bed and went back to his "Floaties". He is eating well and he pees and poops. As a matter of fact, he comes and wake me in the morning for food. But other than that he seems like he just wants to sleep.

I work all day but I have tons of toys out for him, I keep the TV on and the blinds up so he can look out the widow. When I come home I try to play with him. But like I said he doesn't play anymore. I called the vet and have an appt for him on Monday. But do u guys have any suggestions? Just so confused at the 180 turn. Ugh! Savannah's are so confusing to me. :( So sad right now.

I definitely think that you should get him checked out by the vet. On the other hand, at 9 months old, it could be a growth spurt that is making him lethargic and uncomfortable.

Oh okay! Someone on one of the Savannah Facebook pages said the same thing! I have to admit I woke up one night to him sitting on the bed looking at me and was like....dang Loki! You grew big over night!!! Hahahaha

Given that he is eating, peeing and pooping as normal... those are good signs. A growth spurt may well explain his behavior but still it's good that you made an appointment for him just to be checked out.

Vet appointment is definitely a good idea since this has already been going on for about a week, but as Brigitte said eating, peeing, pooping normal is a good sign.

There were definitely times when Shango didn't feel like playing much when he was going through a growth spurt. Even now, occasionally there are days when he just feels like napping a lot... I learned to take advantage of those days because he usually makes up for them by being extra playful the next day. To a point, I think our fur kids are like us and some days we are just extra tired and don't feel like doing much. If the behavior continues I would think there's some kind of underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

Depending on how cooperative Loki is, you could try taking his temperature to see if he has a fever. I used to be able to do that with Kai, but it's definitely not an option with Shango.

I'm assuming he's been neutered if he's already 9 months old?

Hi Savannahluv, thanks for your reply! Yes he's neutered. Hopefully it wont last long! It makes me sad because im use to him being so active. But I will definitely take advantage of it though! :)

Update:

Over the weekend Loki got worse. So I took him to the vet on Monday. His red blood cells were very very low (10)! Normally it should be up in the 30s. They did lots of tests to find out what could make this happen. They sent me home with 2 medications to give to him twice a day (Doxycyclone and prednisolone syrup) and told me to come back on Wednesday for a follow up.

When I brought him back in his red blood cell had gone up to 11.8. I could tell he was feeling a little better. However, the doctor still didnt understand what was causing his low red blood cells. They did one more test to see what could be the cause. I waited for over 45 minutes.

As I was wondering what was taking so long the doctor finally came in. He showed me this little doohickey that look like a pregnancy test. He showed me a very faint little blue dot and said he did 2 test and it showed that Loki could have feline leukemia!!!!

I didnt understand how he could get this because he is strictly an indoor cat and I dont have any other pets! Plus I have only had him for 4 months!!! He said that he wanted to send out for another test to make sure the two weren't false positives.

They will get the results on Monday. So here I am just waiting. Its crazy, one minute im thinking its a growth spurt or something and the next minute im thrown with something I never expected. Poor Loki. I really really hope its a false positive!!!

Has he been vaccinated for Felv?

Hi DumaLove, when I got him it shows that he was tested for feline leukemia and it said negative. I dont think he was vaccinated before and I did not vaccinate him after, thinking since he is strictly an indoor cat and I dont have any pets. Is there a way that an indoors cat can get this disease. Im wondering besides not getting him vaccinated (which now I wished I did) is there something I did to hurt my kitty?
