Is there any organization that truly helps animals ...

So there's this rescue inside our petsmart that is getting Savannah kittens.. again. I believe Paige or someone had contacted them before when they were supposed to get some, but it fell through. They are selling them for an arm & a leg. Over $1,000 each.

I usually donate to the animal control in my hometown in Altus, OK. They are a very high kill gassing facility. The volunteers have made a rescue organization called Save The Paws of Altus. They've racked up over $26,000 so far at the vet's office. Yikes! BUT that being said, only a hand full have been gassed. So its worth it to make sure these babies find safe homes. I have a whole big bag full of discounted collars (1.49 at Target), *HEALTHY* treats. Then of course money to go towards the big vet bill.

Ashley, that rescue is not a rescue...I think MK knows about them...She can answer when she returns from vaca!!!

Oh - for some reason I thought you were talking about OK - I know someone in OK who was planning on breeding then talking about getting out so I wasn't sure...

Oh no. I live in Tacoma,WA now that we are Air Force. But I grew up in Altus, OK.

If I remember what happened correctly this "rescue" bought kittens from a backyard breeder in January. Was supposed to do it again in June or something & that fell through. And now they are supposed to be buying another litter soon. From what I was told these people should NOT be breeding and by purchasing them from this "breeder" it is just allowing the "breeder" to continue profiting off of them. Then the "rescue" is turning around & selling them for $1000+.

Believe it or not, there are some 'rescues' that use their status as a tax shelter. There are big bucks to be made i the rescue business, and if you are a 501c3 every expense is a write-off. I'm not surprised to hear of yet another such organization. It's just another scam in a different format...

Yeah, she has a kitten from the litter in January & I'm not going to lie, he is GORGEOUS. But I'm just like, ya know, if I'm going to spend that much money I'd rather spend a bit more & go through a reputable breeder & have papers. Not go through someone who is just trying to make a pretty penny off these poor babies & support backyard breeders.
