Kitoko & friends

Kristen told me that Kitoko is a cat that needs to acclimate at her own pace and in her own time. That she likes to feel in control of what is happening to her. She felt that she was adjusting well and was very happy to be here. She said that the peeing outside the box was a way of getting me to notice her and that she was trying to tell me that things weren't quite right for her. After the peeing on my bed incident I let her run with the boys all the time and she goes outside with Moses everyday. The peeing, so far has stopped - apart from the near miss on the cat bed! Kristen asked her how she felt about having kittens of her own one day. She explained how the process would be. Kitoko isn't sure yet as she still needs to settle and mature. She appreciated that I want her to be involved in the decision.

I meant to say that Kitoko has been brilliant about getting in her carrier to go back and forth to the enclosure. She just goes and hops in when she wants to go down and the same to come back indoors. I rarely need a treat now. I do hope I don't cause too much upset when we see the vet on Monday, I will feel like I have betrayed her trust. Moses is such a calming influence I hope he will do the trick and help her stay chilled. She is such a clever girl that I hope she will work out there is nothing to worry about. Maybe she will be like baby Jax on his first visit to the vet and be a complete Angel! I will try and let her know what is happening.

It sounds like Kitoko has really come a long way. I'm so glad to hear that she will go in and out of the carrier for you, that will make the vet trip so much easier! I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly, let us know how she fares there!

Hopefully Moses will keep her calm.

I keep thinking about Elsa and Jake (see the John Campbell threads)....I think that Elsa responds so positively to changes because Jake takes it all in stride. She sees a new situation but before she freaks out about it, she turns to Jake and he basically tells her that it is all OK and she chills out. Going on a long road trip, no problem because Jake tells her so. Hopefully Moses will do the same for Kitoko.

Thank you and I will read John's threads. She certainly seems to watch, and copy, anything the boys do. So I will keep my fingers crossed. :)

Kitoko did great at the vet today. We didn't try and take her out of the carrier this time. But she seemed to take everything in her stride. Bless Moses, he was a perfect teacher. She didnt cry or struggle to escape! The vet was happy that the peeing was more likely marking issues than UTI due to the long spells between incidents and didnt feel that he needed to examine her. What's more she didn't seem phazed when she got home and even happily hopped back in the carrier for play time in the enclosure this evening. I am so pleased that it didn't turn out to be stressful for her and hopefully we won't need to go back until her booster is due :)

Sounds like she did great at the vet, Evie...and perhaps letting her hop in and out of the carrier will help her in the future...that is what I do with my kittens so they are not afraid of carriers ;)

Thank you. It was only by following your advice that I made sure she was happy to hop in the carrier and that has helped so much. :) i also need to thank Feliway and Moses!! Lol! I know it would have been a whole new ball game had he tried to handle her - but then again she could have surprised me :)
