Laparoscopic spay versus Flank or Midline spay.

Hi all, Lola is going into hospital on Friday for her pre-op check before her spay operation next week.
She is 24 weeks and has come into heat and driving us and the boy savs crazy. Ideally I would have liked her to have been spayed earlier, however this just wasn't possible due to her being very small for her age, no vet will spay under 5lbs here in UK for the obvious risks.
Im wondering if anyone has a preference to which spay method they think is best and reasons why!
I'm swaying between a Laparoscopic spay or mid line (tummy) as I've heard it can affect the markings on the coat during regrowth. At the end of the day I just want the least invasive and trouble free healing, I know all procedures carry a risk.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts or experiences to help me decide what's best for my little lady. Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of a spay affecting coat markings. I would go with whichever procedure your vet is most proficient in, if he/she does both equally, ask their opinion of which they would recommend, but in general a laparoscopic approach is less invasive and easier to recover from, so I would be inclined to go that route.

Well, Lola had her spay operation today, opted for midline incision, all went really well with no visible stitches to pick at. She was hyper for a good 4 hours after she came home but has calmed down now and finally sleeping, so glad as she was jumping around like a lunatic and I was worried that she would burst her wound.
Got one of those recovery suits but she went ballistic when tried to put it on, resulting in me getting a nasty gash on my hand, eventually managed to get the soft collar on her, she hates it but is tolerating it. Hoping for a trouble free recovery so she can get back to the crazy shenanigans with Vito and Franco. IMG_2076.jpg

When Athena had he visit she stayed over night (that is the vet's policy for all cats) she came home
and I was expecting to have to put the cone of shame on but her did not even look twice at her belly.

I must say I really like surgical glue. I really like it when I come home after a surgery and can take a shower.

It's really great when there are no external sutures. I find the cat just wants to clean the vet smell off themselves and then it's practically forgotten!

It's definitely the way to go, nothing to pick at or be irritated, Lola not bothering at all with her scar, all looking nice, clean and healthy, she's very sleepy today but I'm happy with that after the crazy bouncing around yesterday.(photo taken 5min ago) IMG_2080.JPG
