Leash Training

I have not tried the Kasbah jackets yet but have heard they are very well made. As for leashes, I prefer the retractable kind, less chance of kitty getting tangled in it.

I always use the extendable ones... They are the best.. Unless you want to keep them within 2 or 3 feet of you...

I just have a quick question, can anyone recommend which leash to buy? I Have a SV f4 not sure if that matters, but I would like to try to get him use to the leash as soon as possible.
Now that the walking jacket has been addressed, yes, you obviously need a leash as well. I recommend a retractable leash--with it your cat can explore farther and make mad dashes at squirrels, etc. with little risk of actually catching them. The Flexi brand works well for me. Just make sure to keep an eye on the rope wear.

I double up with a more standard leash with elastic on the cat end of things. This means they don't hit a hard stop at the end, but are stopped somewhat gentler. I started with this set:

Loved the leash, harness was useless and very easy for a cat to get out of. I asked Cynthia of Kasbah Boutique make walking jackets and matching leashes--she added elastic to the leashes. Now my cats are safe and stylish, and they have gentle brakes!

There is someone on this forum who adds an extra safety strap, so if he drops the leash the cat is stopped by the safety strap's link to a waist belt.

Some also prefer walking jackets secured by Velcro and straps.

I always use a 6 foot leash. I've burnt my hands on the retractable leashes too many times. Plus, we walk on streets a lot, and I would be nervous that she would dart into traffic.

Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but how old do you start training them to get use to a harness? I don't have my own yet, but I would love to know when people usually do for when I do have my own. ^-^

So once you purchase a kitten, you'd want to start within a few weeks after the quarantine period? While they're still young but been with you long enough to feel comfortable with you?

I don't recall seeing this, but I will put two jackets and two leashes on my big cats, because I don't trust just one jacket to hold them (although I've never actually had a problem)
