Leaving a Savannah home (without a sitter) while you took vacation?

I'm so sorry to hear about that. So sad.

Well, I think one thing is certain. We will definitely have someone check in on him and try to play with him. I am naturally a worry wart, and like to plan for the worst case scenario. But it looks like that won't happen (thanks to some great people here in Utah, and thanks to the suggestions from wonderful people here at savannah cat chat!)

We have no 'real' choice on the first two trips... My husband's sister had a stroke about a month ago, and this may be his last time to see her. Or at least his/our last holiday with her. And the trip to Dallas is mandated by our work. Poor timing, but this is the busy time of year for surgery, and we need to keep our jobs.

But it looks like we have a couple of possibilities for sitters. I doubt they can come twice a day, but at least every other day... And hopefully every day. So i am at least optimistic about that. And, if not, there are the other options suggested here today.

Yea! Our cleaning lady will be checking in on the kitties every other day if not every day.... And will spend some play time with Lotto each visit. So thankful for all the suggestions - I now even have two backups from care.com

Why don't you take him with you? All my cats go on vacation with us, and Kronos goes on business trips with me.. most are out of state. Residence Inn by Marriott allows pets for an additional charge, but I couldn't fathom leaving them home alone.. The last thing you want to hear while on vacation "the cat ran between my legs when I walked in the door"

I soooooooooooo wish I could take him. But he's quite skittish when not at home. He doesn't even walk on a leash well anymore. Getting him in an airport, on a plane and then riding for nearly an hour in a car would stress him out more than anything. It seems as he is getting older, he gets a little less bold about 'unknown' places. Plus, I would be leaving him for hours and hours in a room while I was either with family or in the operating room working. I've definitely thought about it... It's hard to know what really would be 'better' or 'worse'.

I did warn the housekeeper to make sure all doors are shut, and that he may try to escape (although to this date, he's been pretty good about not trying)... He has his enclosure and feels safe there. He even gets nervous just walking on a leash in the backyard,

Being a perfect parent is HARD! I'm glad I didn't have real children. I'd be a mess!
