Leaving F1 Home Alone For 4 Days?

Wow, RD, that is amazing...sounds like that EM fit right in ;)

Reminds me of when I was a little girl, I had a pet white mouse (and rabbit and ducks and lizards and cats)...one day I look in the cage where I kept the mouse and it was gone...so I am crying and looking all over for it...no mouse.

The next morning, our boxer, Duke, was playing with something and when I looked closer, it was a grayish mouse...so I think, wow, my white mouse must have gotten dirty somewhere...I put the gray mouse in the cage...lo and behold, the white mouse comes crawling out of hiding...seems I found a field mouse and put it in the cage...I kept both until they died of natural causes...
hahahhaa! That is hysterical!

Thanks all. Was not getting email notif of replies and thought all you guys put me on your ignore list.:big grin:
Just checked to see your helpful replies.
I thought about pet sitters just after I posted this, and Wed., called the local pet store who has a young girl working there who has always taken an interest in Louie. When Louie was about 6 MO, she wanted to meet him, so had him in my car one day and she made a big fuss. This was a few months ago. Called her and she was happy to come once a day for food/water/litterbox/socialize and play(?). He likes her so I feel better.

LD...there are a couple things to think about either now or for in future when you are traveling. Whomever is watching Louie should be able to observe and know when something is wrong that could indicate illness or an injury. That person should also be able to take Louie to the vet if necessary.

When I leave town, I give a statement to the vet that my catsitter has the authority to take any of the cats to the vet and I include the types of treatment permitted, the maximum amount of $ to spend, and the circumstances under which I'd permit euthanasia in the event I could not be reached. My pet sitter has my credit card number and a blank check to cover costs. My vet knows me and the cats well enough to be able to judge what to do in emergencies if I am out of the country or otherwise too far away to make it home in the event of a catastrophic injury or illness.

Agreed, I leave a letter authorizing them to take my cats to the vet for any issue, I trust my vets to make decisions and leave my credit card on file with them. Well I used to leave it, now I know they will just bill me as they know I am good for it by now. Generally our housesitters are friends who have been to our house numerous times so know the cats enough to be able to decide if anything is wrong.

We have not yet boarded our boys. We get a pet sitter (good friend who we trust who knows our oys well) when we are away for more than 3 days; for less, we have a family member stop by, feed the boys, and spend a couple of hours with them each day.
I agree with Deborah and Bridget, the last time we went away my pet sitter needed the CC and authorization we had left.

I've NEVER needed the authorization I've left. My "hypothesis" is that if I leave these letters I will NEVER need them, LOL!

Our pet sitters require that we submit all this info and authorizations. They are also CPR certified for cats and can administer meds including fluids. They are great and usually spend an hour or more at each visit to play with the cats. They text updates and pix after each visit.

Louie, read the previous chit chat section. The site has been wonky lately. Admin is working on it.

Louie gets mad when you call me Louie. He's touchy that way, ya know. F1s are pretty high strung, and I don't want him to get too overstimulated and maul me, dig? I've awoken to the sound of bones crunching and discovered that he has eaten half of my leg. Loves his protein, ya know. Good to know that the site is FUBAR rather than my email program.

He was happy and content while I was away, and the sitter only reported one incident of Lou marking his territory with piss because of the interloper. Never did that before, and he put it right near the front door, where Megan would enter/leave. She played with him and reports that he even jumped on her lap a few times. I'm comfortable with Megan and will use her from now on, rather than boarding.

Good ideas regarding Health Care Proxy, Last Will and Testament, DNR orders, and POA. All noted and filed for possible use.
